Your instinct is correct. Disney is ****ing garbage for adults. Kids should be taken once or twice. But adults that go back there consistently are whack

My kids are too old now for everything other than the water parks.

Planning a large family trip to Europe for 2022 which will be eye wateringly expensive but there will be no Euro Disney and that is a relief

not entirely sure yet as it'll depend on what we can get flight wise but ideally....close to 3 weeks

fly in and out of London.

1 week UK of which 4 days ish London and surrounds and then 3 day trip to the south west and wales

train to Paris and then 6/7 days France of which 3 days Paris and then 3/4 days driving through French country and stay in a farm/chateau and driving to south of france

then either 5 ish days going to one of Italy or Spain, doing 2 days each in 2 cities If Italy it'll be either Florence & Venice or Florence and Rome. I would probably prefer Barcelona and Madrid as I love Spain but I've never been to any of the major Italian cities.

fly back to London

feels you should look into doing a walking or biking tour

seriously, taking it slow, walking 20 km casually and stopping at cafes along the way is incredible

most people walk the camino de santiago from france across spain but i biked it, also biked a roman trailway via claudia from munich to venice across the alps from cheese country through wine country and it was amazing

you wouldn't have the time to see those cities or anything as these are all 2-3 week commitments but man it's the experience of a lifetime as i'm sure you're aware, the thought of walking 20km a day (or biking 60) is a lot more difficult mentally than in reality where you just start doing it and just hit your stride

there’s just no way I’m spending 14k on flights plus flying 24 hours around the world to take my family to Europe for the first time to go on a walking tour. We’re surrounded by incredible natural wonders here - the reason to go to Europe is to see the great cities, history and experience different cultures etc.

To be fair, I’d really enjoy it, although it wouldn’t be my top choice of things to do in Europe, but no one else in the family would want to do it. I tried to get my wife to do a 7 day walking luxury hike in Lord of the Rings country in NZ a few years ago for an anniversary and we ended flying to Vegas instead

Just take the family on a tour through Europe on YouTube. You could see a lot more sites for a lot less money and it's pandemic approved.

Everyone in Australia is locked up in their houses while hordes of police roam around beating people who dare go out to get groceries or medical supplies. Chit's cooked bro.

It’s incredible isn’t it? I get emails from people overseas asking me if I’m in a prison camp

Burgers were generally around $18-20. Drinks were $4.50, so if you were someplace with waitstaff, yeah, you’re probably dropping around $100. Definitely more if you start getting desserts.

The problem is you’re rarely only eating breakfast/lunch/dinner. There are carts everywhere and while many are just repeats of the last, there are definitely things that are more specialty, so we we constantly buying something and splitting it.

You can tell us if you are.

All due respect to Venice, but if I had never been a city in Italy before and only had 2 days, I'd spend them in Rome. The Vatican Museum and the Forum area speeding through will take you a day. If you go to Venice, spend the night near St. Mark's Square and get up early before the tourist boats arrive.

Yes, thanks and I agree that Rome seems like definitely the best city, it’s just a lot further south so would take a lot more time to get there.

Plus, I’ve stayed at the Venetian and Palazzo 4 times now "The Pen:" Live NLHE Chat Thread

We’ll see. Am gonna see what return London flights I can get and book them and then start building the trip later on

Well lockdown aside I think that's usually a fair question to ask you.

How are the rooms in the Venetian. I’ve played there and shopped there of course but never stayed. I’m planning on making a comeback this year. For now atm... I kind of forget how to play so I’ll be giving advice at 1/2 nl level and asking for advice at 5/10 level.

Edit: I haven’t played a hand in 20 months. I’m excited to get back into the ring.

Something about everything that's old is new again.

Hope you're able to take the Europe trip, sounds like lots of fun. London's a blast, tons to see and do. Expensive, like Sydney, but great.

Don't know about going with a family, but look at the tube to get around. Seems like I had to buy a pass before leaving so I got a great deal (many years ago, probably different now). Once I had that, just swipe it and go wherever I wanted. Train went close to everything to see.

Possibly a contrarian take:

Madrid is meh

It feels like a cookie cutter large city and outside of 1 museum (Thyssen) and 1 restaurant that were A+, I would’ve rather gone somewhere else.

———-
Barcelona is absolutely incredible and I loved the time spent in Sevilla. I also took a day trip to Figueres to see the Dali museum as he is my all time favorite. I could’ve spent multiple days in the museum, but that’s probably abnormal.
