I have zero leverage, as they are sub-contractors to a company that is sub-contracted to the company that has the contract. And the contract is not from me, it's from the Dept of Defense.

Meanwhile, after I called with a WTF they said they'd be here in an hour to an hour and a half. Guess how long ago that was. And no, they are not here, nor have even called to say they are on the way.

Movers are the worst.

When I moved across the country, they arrived ~2 weeks late. We left 1 day before they told us they were leaving and a week after we arrived, they told us they hadn’t left and wouldn’t be leaving because they decided to move our stuff onto a bigger truck and the other half had to be filled with another upcoming move before they would depart.

My ex wife got in a car accident within a few days of being without a bed etc so I bit the bullet amd bought a futon so she didn’t have to sleep on the floor for some undetermined amount of time.

With all of that being said, I will 100% hire movers again next time I change residencies.

There was some fuct up movers hustle in Florida a while back where they kept everything. I cant remember the details but the people lost everything and had zero recourse

My parents did a home delivery mattress. After three tries, they finally have one that is "OK, but not as good as our old one."

And at one point the crew picked up try #1 and didn't deliver try #2 for like 5 days. There was some snow involved, but still...

On a moving note, I just got off the phone with the general manager of the company's Indy location. Frustrating day of no packers and bad communication, but at least it sparked her to move heaven and earth. Apparently we're going to have an 8-person crew here tomorrow (that'll be fun), as well as her to oversee, and she's working to get us a rush delivery as an apology. Fingers crossed.

I have played a fair amt internationally and have had some wacky stuff happen that was pretty scary. However, it pales in comparison to the stories I have been told from pals who have ventured into Eastern bloc venues and were happy to leave with their lives and the clothes on their back (seriously)

Not a rolled-in-the-box home delivery option, but we enjoy our serta icomfort mattress, especially the cooling model. We had the queen for a year and upgraded to the king in the same mattress.

We got a Zinus for my kid. It’s comfortable for laying on it while we read him books. He seems ok sleeping on it, but he’s 5, so it’s not like anything hurts on him from sleeping

I can't imagine trying this type of thing anywhere outside the US or Western Europe. I had a poker acquaintance go missing in Bulgaria, there's really no rules in a lot places, even if they "feel safe".

The police here work for the casinos. I have literally had the police/sherriff/constable tell me they couldn't serve legal documents to certain casinos because they are not allowed to for political reasons.

I guess that makes sense; it's possible the casinos thought that would be enough. Local corruption isn't going to beat a 400k lawsuit nowadays however, even in Vegas.

here's the problem: Most of the people working in the casino biz are slightly above braindead. Seriously, I have yet to meet a pit person who actually knew basic strat perfectly let alone how to count cards. It does not take that much time to learn and it seems to me anyone that was remotely motivated would learn this stuff yet no one does. In blackjack there are an absolute ton of procedures in place in order to protect the game. Most of the pit crews I have interacted with understand little to none of the why's these things are in place. Dealers are basically zombies pitching cards. Security are all hopped up and are ready to crack skulls. So when they hear some one is doing something "wrong" they are fired up and are ready to mix stuff up. I have more than once caused a scene in order to prevent other teammates from being back roomed as many in the biz are un aware that false imprisonment is not ok. And hiring ex cops will not solve the problem, this i promise

A friend of mine was one of the principals behind the MIT team for many years. I had dinner with him on Monday. It was his birthday dinner; his birthday was in March, but this thing called covid-19 got in the way of scheduling it.

He has a bunch of stories about being backroomed, the worst being overseas. He also has a story about leaving $50,000 in a bag in a men's room on the MIT campus. Amazingly, they got the money back.

Must had been hard to make money for smart people back then.
