question on my play on the flop question on my play on the flop

Game: 2-3-5, 9 max table
Stacks: $500 max (most players have more than that)
My stack: ~$500

I have been sitting at the table for about an hour. I have been playing pretty tight to get a feel for the table. I have been playing blinds and position. Nothing out of hand or bluffing too much. Perhaps I am playing too tight, but that's another story for another time

I see that there are 3, maybe 4 LAGs. A couple of guys that are playing for fun, and the others are regulars

I am on the button.

A guy open limps UTG and another calls in the cut off.

I make it $25 to try to pick up the blinds and end it there. SB folds. BB and the other two call. I believe my raise was way too small, but again, that's something else all together

BB is a TAG, the other two are LAGs imo.

Flop comes A3Ten rainbow. It checks around to me. I make it $45. BB covers me and comes over the top to $110. The other two players fold.

Let me say what I did. I come over the top to $225, leaving me with $250 behind, give or take. He then shoves and I call. Turn a King, river an Ace. He has Ace-Ten. I lose, but that's not my question.

Now, here is my question: Should I have just called or should I come over the top on the flop? Should I have waited for the turn before shoving?

I was pretty certain he didn't have a set and I was way ahead. I also didn't expect him to have flopped two pair, maybe just an Ace with a big kicker. I mean the hand played out the way it did, but just curious whether shoving there or should I have waited given the board was pretty dry.

Just trying to improve my play and see if what I did was right. Thanks

Oh, this is my first post. From reading other threads, I think I put enough information. If not, please feel free to let me know roughly how I should post. Thanks again in advance.
