Question about rake and if a game is beatable Question about rake and if a game is beatable

A few months ago my daily 1/2 nl game was forced to close down. It had a 10% $4 max +$1 bbjp rake. I have recently been playing in a few games that are new to me. All but one of the games allow smoking at the table and it reakes havoc on my allergies, so I can't really play in these games every day. The only game that doesn't allow smoking has a ridiculous rake imo. The game charges a 10% $7 max rake + $1 per hand for bbjp + $1 per hand for a monthly "freeroll". So essentially any pot over $70 is getting raked $9!!! The players at this game are your standard loose passive $1/2 players but I don't see how this game can be profitable with such a high rake. Opinions?

It's probably beatable but only because llsnl players are so awful. If try to find something else though.

7+1+1 is pretty sick. There is this theory that higher raked games have bad players because they don't know any better. If the game is super soft and pretty deep maybe beatable but not a game to be splashing around for small pots that's for sure. Even raise and take its and heads up c/bet, take it on the flop hands won't be very profitable w/ $2 overhead on every hand.

If you are normally a generous tipper I would compensate by sticking to $1 max and never tipping if there is no flop.

I mean that they take $1 from the pot for every hand that sees a flop.

What's the typical buy-in? If people are buying in for $500 and stacking off light, then sure, it's beatable.

But I think I'd rather just find a better game.

I saw some math on this a while back don't remember the post or forum but it went like this.

Assuming 25 raked hands/hour at the 4+1 table, the table is paying 25*5=125 per hour. Divide that by 10 for the amount of players and each person is paying $12.50/hour.

Lets say your winrate per hour after rake is $20. So pre rake it it 20+12.5 = $32.50.

Now in your new game assuming 25 raked hands/hour the table is paying 25*9=$225/hour. Divide that by 10 players and you get $22.50/hour.

Your new winrate would be your winrate before rake minus the rake.
32.5-22.5= $10/hour.

I'm not a psychic who knows exactly your winrate or how many raked hands come up so adjust these numbers as you see fit and come to your own conclusions.

How much rake pr hour do u in general pay?

So i just moved to Dublin and the game they have here is 1-2€ and is pretty soft.
The rake is 8.40€ pr hour and 1€ per pot over 20€(for some cash game league thing).

Is that a lot? I haven't played that much live at casinos, more private clubs.

Imo it souds reasonable but like i said, im not that experienced when it comes to rake

The buy-in is capped at $300, and most people buy in for $100-200. People definitely stack off light from what I've seen (have only played there 4 times). I'm just going to look for somewhere else to play that doesn't allow smoking at the table and has a lower rake. Thanks for the responses.
