1/2 game.

We just sat down.

V just played a hand with a short stack where he called large bets on flop and river with just a backdoor/ A high, but lost.

He has a big stack and seems to be playing loose and splashy.

In this hand ,he opens from EP to $30. This is a very large opening size. Most people make it around $10.

We have QQ in the CO.

How do I interprete this bet?

I doubt it's something like AA or KK.

Should we 3bet? Normally we would, but $30 is so large.

How would you proceed against this kind of villian?

He has about $700+ and we have about $350.

I will post the rest of the hand details later, I just wanted to discuss this spot since it's so unusual.

Based on what you said it's an easy 3bet, a lot of times people just want to get money in with whatever and you punish that by raising over it. Even if he has a hand, it could be AQ/JJ/TT or whatever, something you REALLY want to play against, where the possibility of AA and KK is worth the risk.

V sounds like a whale. ISO him with a value raise (90-100) and plan to call a 4-bet jam.

In my limited live experience, I noticed two different players making a significantly larger opening size that I got to find out what they were in the end. 1. JJ. 2. 89s.

Wish my sample pot was bigger, but better than 0.

make it $100 and then GII on any non-ace board after betting flop+ turn.

Lots of people hate JJ so it makes sense!

Has he never done this before?

Raise him now to ~100 or a little more, even.

When he raises this huge I wouldn't go too huge on a 3bet, like 90 and I would get it in vs the villain as described. He could have AA or KK here, but I have seen loose splashy villains show up with JJ, TT, 99, AQ, KQs here.

Have you seen him open raise any other hands to a particular size? You want to range villains who very their preflop sizes as accurately as possible and as soon. As possible to exploit the hell out them.

Unless I’ve seen this player open 15 BB with less than QQ I’d Flat call. Play poker.

I wouldn't worry too much about interpreting. It's a raise so he likes his hand. You have QQ so you like yours more. Just stick in a 3bet (by all means on the smaller side of you like...say 80-100) and go from there. The size doesn't really change much except that you are going to be much more skewed towards strong hands in your 3bet range, but whatever, just go for it.
