Have you seen from dusk till dawn (1996)? I'm slightly confused about the roles of a movie producer/director/etc so I don't know if it can be said that Tarantino made this movie (Robert Rodriguez is the director, but tarantino is listed as the writer and executive producer or something).

anyway... it's one of those completely insane action-filled movies. it's nothing like pulp fiction, and a lot more like planet terror. im not saying it's a masterpiece, but I think it's almost impossible for a normal red-blooded male to completely dislike it.

The Departed, Good Will Hunting, Shawshank, and Gone Baby Gone are all really high up on my all-time list, and they all got recognized as great movies. For the most part, though, I don't seem to like the Oscar nominees or cult classics, and pretty much anything that's been recommended by OOT (Dark Knight, Children of Men, TWBB, Equilibrum, Sin City, Slumdog, etc.) has been awful.

It's not like I'm trying to hate them. I fell asleep during TWBB, and it really might be the worst move I've ever seen. NCFOM was alright, but the "ending" killed it. I downloaded it online, and I honestly thought I had downloaded an incomplete movie because it ended so abruptly. I just feel like most of these critically-acclaimed movies are "artsy" and well-acted yet suck at actually entertaining me.

And just so you can flame me, I loved Crash.

I did enjoy some of the movies in which tarantino was involved, though. From dusk till dawn, Planet Terror and Hostel come to mind.

TWBB, NCFOM, Dark Knight... I found these decent enough, but overrated too.

I don't even bother trying to watch movies like Slumdog, because I know they're designed to appeal to a pretentious movie critic audience and there's like a 15% chance I'll enjoy them.

I rarely like movies with good reviews. The ones I like are usually rated 5-7 on imdb. I pretty much expect the 8+ rated movies to suck.
slumdog definitely wasn't designed for critics, and I think it's kind of ridiculous it won the oscar. It's an enjoyable story with at a classic storybook ending, but not really an all time great movie.

as for the rest of your movie opinions, we'll just have to agree to disagree Although if you want to give tarantino another chance and you aren't a fan of the long dialogue scenes check out Sin City (soooooo good) and Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 (a fave of mine though I know some people don't like as much).

I still loved slumdog and thought it was easily best picture last year and I saw every single film that was nominated before the awards. The reader was prob my least fave, that or benjamin button I guess. Milk was good but not as good as slumdog or frost and the wrestler was better than milk and the other two and really should have been nominated imo.

I'm not a movie fanboy but how you can be against QT? Pulp, RD, etc I mean even death proof was dope. For a young quirky dude he's a total throw back to the old days. His films really have this awe inspiring type of nostalgia to them.

i thought the wrestler was better than slumdog, but it wasn't really a strong year for movies all around.
08-26-2009 , 02:07 PM
i though last year was great.

This year I haven't seen a ton of stuff. I guess 500 days of summer was good but not like special at all. I'm still waiting to go see Moon. Saw the hurt locker and loved it. It was just 2 hrs+ of total intensity. IB was stellar. But that's pretty much all ive seen besides hangover and bruno.

ommmmmmg

my girlfriend tells me shes late by like 5days so basically fml
i run to pharmacy to get pregnancy test

shes so scared and everything but i force her to pee and then she wont put the urine in the test so i have to do it for her. fmlx2

so the test result thing is like a meter, and half way filled means negative, and filled up means prego.

so I drop the urine in and it starts to fill.
quarter way...... plz stop plz stop
half way...... plzzzzzzz one time
..........3/4ths of the way.........
it keeps going. fills right up.
fmlx3

i turn to her and tell her shes pregnant. she kind of looks at me shocked and says 'seriouslY?'

i sigh and say yup, look at the test.

and i look back and even though the meter filled up, there is now a hash mark at the 1/2way mark.

shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip it i am so relieved those 20seconds were terirble

Yeah last year was an amazing one for movies. I think this year has been good so far and has a chance to be great. So far I've loved Hurt Locker, 500 Days of Summer, D9, IG, still have yet to see Star Trek, Moon, and Up. Watchmen, Hangover, HP6, and Bruno were OK but I can't wait for the fall season.
