Anybody know of a product for recording hand-histories (a notebook,on paper, IRL) that has the standard table drawn on it with positions relative to the button, where you can fill in blanks to track hand histories? I think this would be great for quickly capturing detailed info on a hand without typing into a phone.

I've searched for this type of product but come up with nothing. I'm considering just making my own by using draw.io or something and just printing a bunch of them and binding together.

Thanks!

I would suggest coming up with your own shorthand type of language for hand histories. If done correctly, it's easily readable and you can just plug in the actions players take. Here's an example I just came up with.
<Limits/Blinds> <Game>, <Effective Stack>, <Hero's Hand>
<Board runout>
UTG:
UT1:
UT2:
LJ (H): 20; 55 c; f
HJ:
CO: c; c f;
BTN: c; 155; 500
SB:
BB: c; x f;

Only a little bit of writing/typing, and a clearly visible poker hand. Hero(LJ) opened to 20 preflop, got called by CO/BTN/BB. Hero C-bet 55, CO called, BTN raised to 155, BB folded, Hero called CO folded. Hero check/folded to BTN's turn bet of 500.

You only need to plug & play, and make slight adjustments to the shorthand framework to input hands.

Use poker bankroll tracker app. When you start a live session you can update your stack at any time. Then you can record notes for each update. ( when I was tracking all my hands I took a note for every hand including the ones I folded) I used a shorthand style with nicknames for players that I would remember.

Jonathan Little did a video on how he does it in a little notebook.

There's nothing faster than jotting down a HH in your phone's note app.

Here's a multiway pot with Hero in CO....

MP 15, CO AKss 50, sb, bb & mp c

K87hhs. H 100, bb and mp c

2s. H 250, bb c

5s. bb $500, H ai $1250.

I usually have time to get the pot size in as well, but if you don't you can just add that stuff up when reviewing at home. If you can, you can also add in player descriptions, like:

BB 50's MAWG fit/fold

or MP, young asian LAG

I did this back in 2011, tracked about 400 hands.

I custom built a simple PHP form that could probably be easily replaced using a Google form now.

Trick is to make the input as simple as possible and as fast as possible. You do not want to waste any time inputting labels of each player. However, labels of players are clearly very important information as well as position and hands.

Step 1:

Write down labels of every player from Seat 1 to Seat 9 and add as much information as necessary for tracking. You could do this in a separate note, but this should be fluid.

Step 2:

Creating and understanding short handed labels such as HA, H2, H3...HT, HJ, HQ, HK and so forth. H stands for suit and the 2nd number is the card.

Step 3:

Understand that you only need to input information that are noteworthy. For example, in the Button field, put in 3, and you would know that Seat 3 is the button, and therefore Seat 4 is SB and Seat 5 is BB.

And if a player sits out, input all of those as well. So if Seat 2, 5, 7 are not dealt in, just put in 2, 5, 7 in the dealt out cell, and you could easily see that if button is on seat 3, then 4 is SB, 6 is BB, and there are 6 players in the hand.

Step 4:

Come up with shorthanded reference to action. Fortunately most LLSNL games do not have a lot of 3bets, so you could simply put in the limp cell which seat limped, and which seat opened, and then which seat called.

It should be pretty easy to understand something like this:

Button cell: 1
Limp cell: 5, 6, 7
Open cell: 9
Call cell: 2, 3, 6, 7

Button is on Seat 1, Seat 5, 6, 7 limped, Seat 9 raised, button folded, both blinds called, and 5 limp/folded, while 6 and 7 both limp/called.

You should obviously have 3bet and 4bet cell available for input and the subsequent action.

Step 5:

Translate and analyze information.

--------------------

If done correctly, you pretty much can record hands as fast as they're played without missing a beat.

I was able to record 100 to 150 hands per session and then broke them down by player tendencies.

Yes, as mentioned Poker Bankroll Tracker has a hand replayer feature that can store entered hands for history and review. It's free

Obviously every time someone changes seat or new player enters table, you should update the Step 1 chart. You could track this in Notes and timestamp it, while Google form is automatic timestamped. Matching the two would easily allow you to identify players involved.

The form should be number based because you will only be inputting numbers and trigger Phone input method on iPhone would make it easier and faster to type.

Cards themselves and players' holdings obviously should allow letters, or you could also make your own shorthand by converting them into numbers. It might require some extra work and memorization, but I can see long term value in saving few seconds. Or you can always build custom keyboard for input, something that wasn't available back in 2011.

I had gotten so good that sometime I was sitting there waiting for turn and river card to be dealt, so I can input the card information.

I played in a pretty small player pool, so ~400 or so hands gave me enough insight that I stopped collecting more hands.

If you're trying to do it the old school way, I'd just design the chart/table etc, and upload that to a company that makes notebooks. I did a similar thing with cards (ordered a deck with the same custom designed card throughout). You can do the same thing with all the paper in the notebook. Not super pricey, something like $10-$15 a dozen.
