This was my last hand played last night at a charity card room near me.
Effective stack ~$190
utg+2 raises to $12 (this guy is lose/passive; rarely raises PF; I'd say he limps 75-80% of his hands), hijack calls (loose/passive), cutoff calls (ABC player), i call from SB w/ KcJc, BB folds (pot $50)
flop: 8c 6c Js
i bet $40, all fold
Should I have check-raised this flop? Optimally I would have checked, original raiser bets large, 1 call, I shove.
There are obviously a number of holdings the players could have had here. Pretty large range from broadway cards to suited/gap connectors.
but if utg+2 "rarely raises" then I'd probably just try to CRAI the flop because I expect his range to be mostly big pairs, thus I expect a cbet very very often
I generally hate "fold pre," as an answer, but if a generally passive player wakes up raising, what are you doing calling an easily dominated hand out of the SB???
check raise is better. If you are going to bet, bet smaller between $20 an $30. remember, if called, theres a good chance you are drawing too so you want to give yourself direct odds. Also, if you have FE, a b-3b could work nicely here to "TONY G" it and represent a set
I think calling pre is Ok given that a couple of the opponents are passive, and your alternate plan, regardless of board, would be to play agg post-flop.
I think an 80% pot bet with a monster is over-the-top. If you think the ABC player may take a stab, then I'd try to CR. If not, lead for smaller amount, perhaps $18. If one calls, then you may get a domino effect. Then again and already mentioned, they all may have nothing.
