hey guys, just curious if anyone has read the two following books and could give some feedback if they are worth buying. (online grinder mixing in live)

- Verbal Poker Tells: Zachary Elwood
- Reading Poker Tells: Zachary Elwood

also any suggestion on any other books that have helped you would be much appreciated.

I haven't read either, but the fact that the owner of 2+2 created and gave him a forum to run gives me an indication that he's pretty good.

Those are the two best books on tells I've read (I've only read part of the verbal tells book but I can already tell it's a great book). I've read stuff by Navarro, Caro, and there is a decent book by a couple of other authors (can't remember their names) that I read but the stuff by Elwood is the best IMO.

The best book I've ever read on reading opponents is the hand reading book by Ed Miller, but it's not a book on tells. I just find the stuff Miller talks about to be more useful in a lot more situatioms.

Mason reviewed Verbal Poker Tells in the latest 2+2 magazine and gave it a 10 out of 10.

There is also a book excerpt in there that the OP can look at.

Haven't read the verbal one but the first one was pretty good. For whatever value a book of this type has if say Zachs is better than the other stuff out there. I particularly like the way he divides the tells.

I have both. Reading through the first currently. So far very good. He organizes it into very easy to grasp categories that limit your chances of misapplying the information. I'll be writing a blurb for him as soon as I get off my ass and finish reading.

No kindle edition of the Verbal Tells book. Weak sauce Zach

I've read both, and they provide a wide range of information on how to interpret pretty much all of the most common tells, as well as some rarer ones. More importantly, they also provide the reasoning behind a lot of the tells, providing you with somewhat of a tool set to interpret new tells.

That said, without a decent amount of experience with live poker, and more specifically the psychology of live players, the benefits of using tells is going to be very limited.

I'm listening to an audible version of the first book. Solid so far.

When I knew nothing more than how to play 7-card stud, I studied to death, Sklansky's "7-Card Stud for Advanced Players" & my wife would quiz me on the way to Atlantic City. Although I didn't kill the game until I was comfortable enough to open up my play, I raked it in almost every weekend we went. Free money in the 5/10 limit game!

I once bagged close to 1k over a weekend! Thanks Dave!

I expect these two books, of which I own both, to give me the same return on my money.

Actually there is an abridged Kindle version of Verbal Poker Tells (called Verbal Poker Tells: Condensed) and it's only $10. Amazon tries to control pricing by giving publishers 70% of the sale if the price is below $10 and only 30% if the price is above $10. For that reason, I decided to abridge the book to make it available on Kindle as I didn't like putting the whole book out for $10.
