Hi guys,

This happened to me today.

2/3 game effective stacks 250 I raise IP JJ to 15 get 1 caller on the BB, new player.

Flop K22 check check

TUrn Q Villain bets I fold.

I feeel Ive been very nitty here. Thoughts? Should I ALWAYS bet the flop here?

Thanks in advance

For me, the smaller our pair the more we should lean towards betting the flop whereas the larger our pair (including AA) the more we can check back the flop (i.e. where these hands fall on a WA/WB scale). JJ is a little in the middle, but I'd still likely lean to betting the flop.

If the turn was more blankish we'd probably have to lean towards a call given our flop check back. On this turn card against a betting opponent, unless we have good reads to suggest otherwise, I don't hate a fold.

I think you can balance both betting and checking this flop. Played it fine imho.

If betting, something < 1/2PSB.

This is a great flop for your range, because you can easily rep Kx, Ax and middle pairs which are almost always ahead of V’s range. This is a cbet almost always. It doesn’t even have to be a very large one. Bet like 40-50% pot and if V calls you can check turn and maybe even river to get to showdown. If V check-raises flop or donk leads turn, you can consider your action. If he checks both streets, you can consider value betting the river if he’s likely to float his Ax hands.

These are good flops for the PFR that almost always need to be cbet. You can’t check here unless you know the BB only defends super super tight.

Why is it imperative to rep Kx/middlepairs (and other hands that are ahead of villains range) when we are actually ahead of villains range?

Like, the only point in "repping" Kx when we actually have JJ is to get QQ to fold, otherwise I'm not sure what the benefit to repping a better hand is when we actually have one (apart from protecting against the times we don't).

You bet for value. I’m not saying to bet to get V to fold.

We’re not going for 3 streets obviously but V will call flop with just about all of his pairs and most of his Ax hands.

This is fair enough (although I don't think checking is horrible); the thing that confused me is the "repping" part of things.
