2-3 NL, plays like a 3-5 size wise. 800 eff. Villain is pretty tight but capable of exploiting his image (same as hero). He doesn’t 3b often at all. Our only hand of note was in a previous session where I 3b him pre, shorty fish on btn cold called, V folded, and I couldn’t beat KT on T52 A 3 and he gave me the look of death. My hand (99) was not shown.

Pre: Hero on btn with J9dd

Utg 6. Hero opens 25, only V in sb calls

Flop (59) : KK9r bdfd
Check check

Turn (59) : 7x
Villain 50 hero calls

River (159) : 3x
Villain 100

Fold. Tight V isn’t bluffing here. KTs-KQs and TT-JJ squarely in his range.

Utg was a straddle?

I think Hero should be cbetting flop, how tight do we think this villain is? Who never 3!?

Yes UTG straddle. He 3b some, probably tens+ AK. I think he mostly has pocket pairs or broadways and a few suited connectors from sb flat.

I snap fold river would be close vs a typical sb flat but he has to be tighter because of straddle, even then for it to be close if he was just SB in a regular pot as played he would have to bluff everytime he should and be wide/balanced enough in the SB and typical players do neither of these things.

Basically pure bluff catcher spot so your reads at very pertinent.

Flop could go either way but typically range+hand would lean towards bet

Bet flop.
AP river: lean toward a fold.

Hero should have bet flop and underreped his hand. It doesn't seem like an obvious snap fold to me.

To those betting flop would you bet 98 here? Checked cause I wanted some easy turn calls after check back

Lean towards fold but can literally flip a coin and it could be fine.

No one really bluffs rivers a lot.

I'm fine with preflop.

I'm either/or on the flop. If we're going to get check/raised a bunch then I prefer checking back and inching to showdown. If Villain is unlikely to check/raise, then I might prefer a bet here to protect some equity with a vulnerable hand.

I'm fine with turn.

Tough spot on the river. If he is capable of bluffing against weakness, then I might lean to a call. Very few value bet the river with a big pair here once we call the big turn bet (as it looks like we're tarping with a K). So he's pretty polarized, and when you combine that with underbluffed big streets, he starts showing up with Kx quite a lot.

Problem is checking back creates spots like this which are much harder to navigate without a big sample and knowledge of villains tendancies. I might check back different textures but here I’m betting alot of my opening range.

You raised pre for a reason and this hand is best to play straightforward. Betting can get us some value so parts of his range and protection from other parts.

I’m raising pre to iso and keep up aggression on these paired Broadway boards!

turn call is good. id fold river because villain has to be scared you're sandbagging Kx.
