Been at the table for literally 10 min and Villain is completely unknown to me. He's a young 'college type' with ~50bb in front of him. Table is short handed.

$2/$5 No Limit Hold'em - Fallsview - 11:30pm - 6 Handed

Hero is in CO w/K2hh
2 folds, Hero raises to 5bb, fold, Villain calls 4.5bb, fold

Flop: AT4r
11bb (2 Players) Villain checks, Hero bets 7bb, Villain calls 7bb

- after he calls my cbet on that board I put Villain on a weak A

Turn: 3x
25bb (2 Players) - Villain checks, Hero checks

- if he is on a weak A that turn card is not going to scare him at all (2nd barrel might fold a T if that's what he called with)

River: 6x
25bb (2 Players) - Villain checks, Hero?

- now that he checks again I'm starting to think that he doesn't have an A, that said, what can I rep here? Do we just give up or can we get enough folds to justify betting 16bb here? (40% folds to show a profit) Will he likely call with any pair? Again, I have no reads.

Young player.
50 BB buy in.

I don't think he knows enough to realize you're representing a strong pair of aces on the river. He's going to call you down with everything that beats you. Check and let him see you had as Norman Chad calls it, squadouche. Poker is about bluffing and he isn't going to let you bluff him on the river.

Bad bluff...short stack means he's probably not that good or a fish. Your line clearly reps nothing. he's calling you with anything that is a pair.

Ok - great example of why you cant think of hands like this in isolation. This forum tends to focus too much on each hand as if its a separate event with a perfect isolated solution.

The villain is short but what about the rest of the table? If they see you get caught bluffing you may be able to set yourself up to make a lot more over the session as they always assume you are full of it. But it really matters how much cash and what kind of cap there is.

A bad bluff in in a bad spot can be turned into gold later!

Betting turn > Betting river.

But that means nothing since you shouldnt bet the river.

this is spot on imo here.

but if im checked into twice after a flop call, i'm weighting opponents range to whiffed overcards floating flop, so every once in a while i might toss out a < 1/2 pot bet here and not be concerned about getting looked up for metagame raisins.
