Hey guys, I live in Brazil, and most of the poker houses here have a different kind of poker table, let me explain:

The blind is mandatory only for the BU. So let's say that there 9 ppl at the table:

BU post $5.
SB Folds.
BB calls $5.
UTG folds
UTG+1 folds
MP1 calls $5.
MP2 Calls $5.
HJ Folds
CO Calls $5.
BU Checks

FLOP. BB bets....

Have you ever seen something like this? Is this commun?

Its not very common at all. I have played this way at some mixed games, though not in a casino (yet). They do a button-ante-for-whole-table in the ante games. When it switches to PLO or NLH they then do button-posts-the-blinds. It keeps the button moving consistently between games.

Strategy for a game like is "tight is right". Since you're not forced to put money in in the worst positions, you should be very tight from up front. You should limp less since you won't have position on the blinds. And you should steal less for the same reason.

The only time I've seen this live is when the player on the button leaves before the deal, the room I play at will move the button to the small blind. Never seen it as a consistent thing though.

Youngsters.

If you read some of Malmuth's and Sklansky's early works, you'll see a wide range of blind structures being mentioned. Only in the last 30 years or so has hold 'em standardized to the SB and BB structure you see today.

The advantage is that the button pays a penalty for having the best position. A disadvantage is that it will tend to make tables somewhat more nitty because the first and second position have little incentive to come in.

Wouldnt it be great if SB and BB = CO and BTN? And SB & BB = UTG and UTG+1? Games would play completely different. Curious to wonder whether this would kill the games in LLSNL. Degenerate fish play every hand anyway so its close.

No it isnt common OP. Venice points out it isnt completely Marsian either. But in todays poker world its basically unheard of.

I've seen this structure in home games frequently.

People frequently over adjust -

But basically you should be playing a lot looser from the BTN overall. Re raising more and calling more liberally. A lot of situations it will be limped to you and your option to check or raise. You really need to focus a lot of attention on this spot, there are a lot of potential leaky spots here.

Also, you should be playing tighter from the first posistions in. However, depending on the game dynamics, if there is a ton of multiway limped pots and its a loose passive game. You can loosen up slightly in EP, as you will have great relative position on the field. By default though, probably should tighten up.

You should be extremely aware of the tendencies of the BTN when you are playing hands in late position. Basically be under the impression the BTN will be playing looser and adjust accordingly. Your posistion basically is no longer as great.

This game with a straddle gets interesting.
