Am I tipping too much for playing fulltime? Am I tipping too much for playing fulltime?

I grind 1/3 live fulltime and I track my tip amounts because im able to write it off come tax time. My number isnt extremely accurate because thats almost impossible to track to the dollar but looking at my poker income ap the other day it seemed a bit substantial. currently have almost $2,300 in tips in 412 hours of tracked play. I do the standard $1 tip most of the time and occasionally an extra $1-2 for the potsize or dealer specific. One thing I do that may be adding up is if I raise and just take down the blinds ($4) I just give all of it to the dealer just being nice/wasted 30 seconds of time. Am I being a bit too nice or pretty standard? When I saw ive tipped almost 4.5 buyins for my stake it made me think of the topic.

Thanks for any input guys!

No further comment needed really.

No, you're never tipping too much if you can just write it off, as long as you haven't gotten audited yet.

I don’t tip usually when I just take down the blinds

Break it down to an hourly rate. Even though I do tip its still not my job to fund other peoples lives when the casino is making millions a year. If you are playing 1/3 tipping over $1 an hour is too much imo.

So you are saying dealers who deal probably 6 hours in an 8 hour shift and get paid like $3/hour by the casino should be making about $12 per hour total (9 people x $1 + $3)? I like poker, I like good dealers. If everybody did what you did there would be no live poker because a dealer would make more money working at McDonalds. Enjoy freeloading off the rest of us I guess.

Whoa! $1 for a decent hand is standard anything else you are just being cheap and there are plenty of cheap people

Whatever OP said was reasonable excepet for tipping dealers $4 when he raises and takes down the blinds.

The tipping system is flawed and stupid for sure but it's the system that is in place and it's not going away so you should tip your dealers an amount that ensures they can make a decent living. It should also be noted that many poker rooms do not actually generate a profit. Hell, some casinos don't even generate a profit. Caesars was a failing business for many years.

Have you seen many players do that? Not sure why you think a dealer deserves $4 for 30 seconds of time (or even for 2 minutes of time). Dealers do not need to get tipped for every single hand they deal. Pros should be tipping less than rec players, because a pro is running a business and also because rec players often over-tip as they tend to only have a limited understanding of tips. Maybe you should just start watching how much dealers get tipped each down and then forecast out what their annual wages probably look like (with the understanding that they may have scheduled breaks where they get tipped zero and also potentially have to tip out to other staff).

Basically this. I consider myself a good tipper and think this is overkill.

I do a dollar for most pots, may do 2 or a bit more for massive pots but never more than that.

Locked. If you really need to post more about tipping, the LCP forum has a containment thread on this subject.
