2/5 players at 1/1 table madness 2/5 players at 1/1 table madness

I went to casino this morning at 6AM, there was a full £1/£1 table and a couple of seats at £1/£2. I made a quick £80 at the 1/2 before moving to the 1/1.

After about an hour the table is breaking and then a bucnh of 1/2 and 2/5+ players came in but sat at the 1/1 until the higher one opened.

I was up £220 at this point from a £200 buy in. I went down to £100 really fast, as I went all in pre against a guy who got a straight on river. I ended the session down £50.

Anyway just a question about the higher stakes as I want to move up in a few months.

It seemed if someone raised to £8 or £9 there was 5 callers and then someone would raise to say £40 and still get 2 callers and they were all in by river with very weak cards but somehow getting paid off.

This was almost every hand and there was full stacks changing hands every hand for about 20 minutes.

Is this normal? How do you outplay this? Nit right up and only play premium was obviously what I'm thinking but no matter what there was always 3-4 people to the flop.
