2-5 nl game in Lawrenceburg Indiana which I am a reg in, usually have extensive history with 4+ players at the table. V1 in the straddle is a young reg, usually very strong player who plays 12+ hr sessions, definitely plays as means of income. V2 on the button I have no history with was a 30 something. I'd been at the table an hour or so had about 900 in front, v1 has 700, v2 has 800.

V1 straddles to 10, hero in cutoff limps with J9 off, button calls, sb calls, bb calls, straddle raises to 50, hero calls, v2 calls, sb folds, bb folds.

*knowing v1 pretty well I see him raise his straddle with a wide range including suited connectors, med-big pairs. I called expecting at least one more caller. I wasn't sure what v2 was limp calling with.

Flop: Ah 7h 8c, v1 leads for 75, hero calls, button calls.

His bet of 75 otf tells me very little. Ive seen him bet a third to a Half of the pot with top set before and he showed, I thought he was trying to portray strenghth but I was convinced I could still take this one away from him. I didn't want to get into a raising war as this kid can be pretty aggressive. Again I didn't know what to make of v2's call on the button.

Turn: 5d

V1 checks, hero bets 150, v2 folds, v1 tanks for a minute and calls.

I know this isn't an optimal line as I have J high but I picked up outs and the pot is worth stabbing at when checked to me in my opinion. If v1 was strong I thought he would fire the turn again. I thought his check was him giving up but apparently not bc he called. Very happy v2 ducked out as I was unsure what his holdings were. At this point I put v1 on a small/medium pair draw type combo.

River: 7c

V1 checks, hero??? What do you guys think? Is this a setup from the jump from V1? If you fire the river than how much? What does v1 have and can I get him off it?

I hate limp calling preflop even IP. He is a tough aggro tag and even with position on him we are multiway with a weak holding and he still beats our range

I'm not sure what villain can have but I would bet this river if he's seen you v-bet thin. If you bomb it, it looks polarized and if you dont vbet thinly you arent repping much since sets are now a tiny part of your range with bottom pair board paring and straights are not that likely. If you bet small/medium sized, he has odds to call too, so I'm not thrilled about the situation.

If he has seen you bet thin in the past I couldnt ever pass this opportunity up since your range wouldnt be as polarized. With the buttons $ in their this is a spot in position I would go for the homerun... as long as your image and history show for it.

Nice analysis, I ended up betting big as I didn't want to make it a cheap call.

I don't want to name names on here, but I'm guessing the description gives it away.

I think he plans on check calling with like AJ or A10, I'd prolly just give up, if you were deeper like 1500+ to start hand I might shove to get him to fold, but if u bet I don't think he is folding whatever he has. Anyway that's just my opinion

I think you don't bet turn unless you are planning on shoving river when he calls and checks again. Other wise, check back and try to hit. If he's giving up, you can still take it away on river with a bet when he has air. Or you can raise over his thin value bet on the river with junk and try to take it down that way.
