Hero bets $85. I chose to down bet here to get rid of any set mining or complete air cards. He would call me as light as suited connectors+ preflop and would fold most of his range if he didn't hit. If I had top pair+ I'd size up more for bigger value. Thoughts on this? I'd just hate to bomb here and have him call with Qx which he won't let go of.

Hate the flop down bet. I know its all the rage, but I think it just ends up tempting LLSNL Vs to do weird things and us therefore having no idea where we are in the hand.

AP, call turn and hope for a board pair. He usually has AK here, sometimes QJ or JT.

Ugh/ not a great spot but I'd have to go allin. Depends on how villain would play AK preflop, which we probably don't know.

Villain could easily do this w/KQ, 2 pair hands, lower set. Doubt he has QQ. Is villain smart enough to put you on AK or doesn't he think like that?

I'm usually in the 'don't down bet' group, but he would peel with literally all his Q's. Once he calls the flop bet I shut down (not withstanding the obvious bink on the turn.) My thoughts being I save myself $60-100 by down betting. Would you still fire a full sized bet here knowing he never folds top pair?

You are betting because you want him to fold hands that you beat (pocket pairs and air), and know he isn’t folding his Qx.

No need to balance your range (range cBet) vs the fish you described.

We don’t have much info about the postflop play. You could exploitative fold if villain is raising only with the nuts.
But I do put him in worse sets and 2pairs.

Never really considered folding. Just been doubting my play overall lately and this was one of two big hands last session so thought I’d run it by people.

He obviously had AK and it held.

And you should never check this flop in a 3 bet pot heads up.

Flop is close since we block draws we want V to have.

I would 3! Pretty wide here given description, so I think JJ would be a check. Tons of other hands without sdv we can cbet small.

Oop, no tpgk+ or draw = check. X/c flop if v bets, then x/c turn to keep bluffs and 2pr betting. If v checks otr, bomb it.

Hero line/range actually has more AK than the V. If he peeled flop with AK, still have outs, and given the V descript his range could include TT/QJs/QTs, maybe even KK which is now OE.
