I never said check raising was the best play. Someone said raising could be fun but its costly and they didnt see the point in doing it. I just pointed out the what the benefits of a check raise are. Its really not costly if you are calling the river anyway.
If you check raise, you fold out almost all Kings, including the ones you were ahead of (unless he limped AK) and and you get value from JT. You lose the same amount to a Q because you can check/fold to a river bet which is almost never coming from anything but a Q. If the guy has the balls to bet JT when checked to on the river (very few people do) then a turn check raise is really bad. The check raise also avoids folding the best hand on the river which several people in this thread wanted to do.
If he calls with a K which is really unlikely, youre going to chop somewhere around 1/3 of the time.
Im sure someone can figure the EV of all of that if they want to. I just know that its a good play to put in your arsenal from time to time.
