2/5: C/r on dry board from PFR? Can this ever be a value hand? 2/5: C/r on dry board from PFR? Can this ever be a value hand?

2/5, $500 effective stacks. V is a winning capable LAG and I've seen him open stuff like 87o UTG albeit in a 1/2 game. Hero is perceived as a a nit however V is aware that Hero can splash around sometimes.

V raises to $20 UTG, MP fish calls, Hero calls OTB with XX, BB good reg calls.

Flop ($80): 963r
Checks to Hero, Hero bets $50, BB folds, V check/raises to $150, MP folds, action on Hero ??

1) If V is expected to cbet all his strong hands, can V really have a value hand in this spot?

2) What is our continuing range vs the c/r in this spot? Are we only continuing with sets (as V should expect us to be)? Do we have any floats?

3) Is there ever a calling range OTF that we can fold OTT?

If you have strong reason to think V would lead with a strong range (A9+) & you think he's setting up a fishy c/r (semi)bluff, then you should continue wide. Considering our pf range, that'd be hands A6+, which we'd call of if bet into OTT/R.

More importantly, are there any more reads that expose V's flop tendencies? Would this guy always lead his sets & random 2 pairs? Can he overvalue QQ+ and c/r with that?

He probably never has any 2p hand here, since I don't think he's opening 96s in a 2/5 game UTG. That leaves him with all pairs, and ~ATs, AJo+ type hands.

I don't really recall any but one hand where I saw a showdown where he c/raised flop with J4s (probably as the pfr), and it was against a nitreg on an 8 high board or something, where he binked a J otr to stack the nit who called him down correctly with a pair to get sucked out on otr. That pot was HU though.

OTOH, I've seen him b/b/b and stack off in MW pots as PFR with AA on K72ss for example.

Yes, I think he will have some strong hands a portion of the time. I could see a strong 9 or some over pairs taking this line, not wanting the action to go bet/fish calls/more calls and then see an awkward turn card. His image seems laggy enough to get paid off by worse often enough to make this line profitable.

In general good players should have a balance of strong and weak hands in these spots - but you've seemed to pick up on the fact that he's taking a more exploitative approach. Check raising and barreling w/ complete trash vs. nitty players... which you think he perceives you to be. Even though it's not heads up... it's possible he completely missed the flop, would give up and fold if the fish bet out, but has decided to bluff since a nitty player bet. I mean, for these reasons I would call with any 6 or better w/ the plan of shoving over any turn bet he makes. If he binks some kind of showdown value on the turn he's likely to check that, so you really can't call flop and fold turn with any run-out.
