6 handed. This is a simple situation that comes up a lot and in a live game I don't know if betting serves any purpose at all.

Effective stacks are ~$200

Hero has A 6 OTB.

Preflop: MP limps, Hero raises to $15, blinds fold, EP calls.

Flop: 2 7 9
MP checks, Hero???

I assume if I bet this flop I'm betting for value from K high, straight draws, and lower flushes right? Cuz I'm never getting a pair or higher A high to fold and double barreling seems bad against most villains in a live game.

Your betting to take down the pot without a made hand yet. If this fails, you are also betting to take further control of the hand and get a free river card if the turn blanks and you want to excersise that option.

Overall plan for hand:

bet $20 on flop. if c/r, call and reevaluate

if called:

bet $45 on turn Q,K,A or spade
check back any other card

FWIW, I think your raise to 15 is a little small with a limper in front.

Bet flop in order to take down pot from a lot of hands and keep control of hand.

Personally, I would check back a lot of turns that I miss for pot control

Your betting to collect the dead money in the pot. Your betting to force hands like KQ and JT to give up their equity in the pot. Also some villains will fold better hands ie 33/44/55/AT/AJ. Also to build a larger pot against weaker fd's to ensure all the money gets in those times you both make a flush. Against straight forward opponents I don't mind double barreling especially on scare cards or cards that give us more outs.

You are betting as a semi bluff to push out weaker pp's, better A highs, random hands that won't put more money unless they outdraw you ott or otr, etc

If called you can take a free card or double barrel which is villain dependent, and it also builds the pot so you can bet big when you hit the nuts.

I'd cbet this flop every day all day in position here. I'd do my normal 1/2 pottish c-bet (which I would also probably do with the nuts here too). If villain folds (which he will do with a large range of hands, such as whiffed overs, whiffed suited connectors, small underpairs, etc.) then great. Otherwise, I probably get to see the river for a price of 3:1, which is awesome (i.e. I'm probably not double barrelling, although villain dependent).
