Hi all,

1/3 game.

V1: me and him have some history together. 30’s WG. Extremely aggressive. No doubt he overbluffs too much. He is very good at applying pressure. I think he plays way too loose overall and uses pure aggression to take down pots a lot. Overall I respect his game and I think he views me as a good player. We kind of stay out of each others way for the most part. He has me covered.

H: young guy. I’m slightly tilted before this hand started. Lost a few big ones in a row. Have $325 to start. Playing TAG overall, however, probably playing a bit too passively this game. I have been opening more hands than I should. I’m prettt sure V views me as the other best player at the table.

OTTH: V1 raises UTG+2 to 12 the cutoff calls, SB calls, I’m in the B.B. with 55 and I call.

($48) Flop Qc 2c 4s

He bets $25 the two other players fold. We call. Honestly, this should be a cold VERY frequently playing OOP against a super aggressive player. Idk why I called. Maybe I was tilted too much. Sometimes he will give up after he bets here, however, at a low frequency

($98) Turn 3d

We check and he bets $85

I think we are starting to see compounding mistakes. We call.

River is the 7d we check he bets 225

We can have SOOOO many better hands that we show up with on the river here

I honestly am not too too sure if he bets all 3 streets for thisnsizing with AQ. Of course he could have AA, KK, and QQ.

He could have missed clubs.

Literally only beating a bluff

Thoughts overall?

Might as well call now being all tilted and looking to hero down OR just ckr turn like I would.

Is the dynamic between you and V such that he thinks you're basically never stacking off with TP? If so, he presumably has either a monster (and he's hoping you have a smaller monster) or not much. I think it's an OK spot to snap him off. Unfortunately, he could be turning a hand like 99 into a bluff, and he could end up accidentally winning. But raise pre, bet, bet, bet should be extremely polarized, and you could easily have a weak tight image in his mind (whether or not it's actually justified).

I'm curious about your notes on him. If he's playing too loose and over-bluffing, why do you respect his game? If he's playing loose and then using well-timed aggression to take down pots post, he may well be playing appropriately loose (at least for the particular games there). If he can usually get folds post, playing more hands pre is the right exploit.

I'm fine with preflop, especially since we might have decent IO against this guy if he can barrel.

I just fold the flop. Things aren't going to get any easier on the turn, are we just biting our limp and calling down with what will likely end up third pair? Plus he did bet into 3 opponents.

Turn/river are why I just fold the flop.

Once and while you'll be correct here and ship a big pot. But the memory of that big pot will cost you far more in the long run when you attempt it far too often in the future, and instead just turn into an opponent that you'd be licking your lips over.

So true! I’ve been very mindful of this lately. You can try and justify suboptimal play with all kinds of excuses. It might work out but sometimes, but turning into a calling station in large pots is so bad for your overall win rate

Does he overbet the pot often?

What would he fold if you raised turn?

The problem I have with a hero call here is the guy opened utg+2. Wouldn't it be better if he opened in like co/button. We also have the 5c and we want him to have that card.

Why don't we take a stand with AQ here or when you flop a set just let him hang himself.

I don't see anything wrong with how you played it so far.

River I'd probably fold. Looks like value with that sizing. I don't see why you're so willing to fold against a guy who overbluffs though.
