Not really sure where else to post this question as this is by far my most frequented forum and crazy pineapple is very similar to NLHE expect for you are dealt 3 cards and you discard one on the flop (for those unfamiliar)

Anyway, I have started to play crazy pineapple and big o because people are just so bad at these games. Far worse than at NLHE which everyone has been playing for ages. I have found that a solid TAG style pretty much prints money versus players who will play any 3 cards for almost any amount.

On to the hand...

Hero - SB - $850 dealt Ah Qh 4x

Villain - normal loose passive donk - BB - $450

Preflop:
3 limps, hero makes it $20 out of the SB. Villain thinks and 3 bets to $40. This is the first time I've seen him 3 bet. Folds back to hero who calls.

Flop: $45
Ac 4h 8h
Hero discards..... Qh or 4x?
Discarding the 4 gives me TPGK and NFD. Discarding the Qh gives me top and bottom pair.

I decide to discard the Qh as I put him on a strong hand, although discounting AA due to having an A myself and am looking to stack AK with a disguised 2p.

What card to discard and check or lead?

discarding happens after the flop betting round, no?

A4 has way more equity against a range of AA/AK but vice versa if his range is ONLY AA. Need more work on reads/ranges.

This should probably go in "Draw and Other Poker" forum though nbd

I've played Crazy Pineapple a few times and it's always been: betting round, then discard.

As played, can't say I have a good grasp of 3-betting ranges, but I'd be inclined to keep the A4 and check/raise flop to target AK/AQ. I'm guessing at a AAx, KKx, AQJ+ kind of range. You are crushed against AA, but he should never have the other sets or better 2-pair in his range. With you having an Ace, there are just way more combos of AK/AQ that he will be playing than AA. If he has KK, he's drawing to 2 outs regardless of the cards you hold.

If his range is just AAx and KKx, then keep the AhQh and check/call flop. Though it would suck if he has KKA.
