River: (6.25 BB) 4 (2 players)

i'm trying to get my WTSD up. EVERYBODY tells me its way too low (29). i think it is HU where i am folding too much. so im going to post a few hands specific to this area of play to and see if the combined wisdom of SSL can help my game.

so. for the first outer bound of this excercise, is this calling down too light?

Villain is not overly aggressive, his flop c/r could be wide, his turn and river lead would make me think a PP or an Ace.

I would expect to chop this often enough to call on the river, I think after calling the turn you commit to calling the river.

This is not a steal situation because you raised from MP. BB is probably c/r with a hand that beats you on the flop. There are no draws so unless this somewhat passive villain decided to c/r you with air, you are behind. I think you can fold to the flop c/r, though from a metagame point of view that sucks.

Once you decided to get to showdown you should have raised the turn. When you do this you give the villain a chance to fold smaller pocket pairs and other ace highs. If you get 3bet you have an easy fold.

i agree with luke. if you're putting in 2bb raise the turn for a free showdown.

You have a slightly passive opponent, AF 1.3, who just checkraised you on the flop. Unless you have some reason to believe that he is taking a shot here, (like you caught him checkraising you with J7 suited before), I would let this go either on the flop checkraise, or to the turn bet.

The checkraise call was very lite but the call on the turn was, imo, fishy. You only beat a weak bluff and have a slight chance at a chop. Let it go. Letting it go btf might not have been too bad a choice. I think that you are too early for this weak an Ace.

thanks for the feedback so far.

lets say the situation was different. same board as b4, but the villain is a 27/11/1.8

what adjustments to the line(if any) would we make? if none, then how aggressive does the villain have to be for us to start to auto call down?

wizard - gotta open with A9o 2 OTB. standard. i'll go as low A7o as a default.

It isn't exclusively the villains aggressiveness that makes me want to lay this hand down. The original villain and the new one are pretty similar in looseness and are likely to be sane players.

The kind of player you can take to showdown with ace high and expect to profit will play a lot more than 25% of his hands and will have a high WTSD% as well.
