I didn't understand this myself, and googled it. For some the word triggers a connection back to a previous era where treatment of the group being labeled was not exactly at an all time best.

There's nothing intrinsically offensive about any term, given that the speaker's intentions are good. Hurt feelings are in the heart of the listener, and are triggered by unpredictable but real connotations of the word in question.

If someone sincerely says they don't like being called [X] then someone who truly has best intentions would try to respect that, without complaining about how taxing it is to keep track of all these goshdarn labels.

Reminds me of 9th grade. I thought I was friendly with this black kid. Apparently not though because I said "sup dog?" one day and he kicked my ass.

Lesson learned.

If you're talking about World War II, it sure took a long time for people to get their panties in a twist. I think it was more that somebody thought "Hey, all these other ethnic groups are making up new names for themselves, let's do it too!". Being half Japanese, it never bothered me in the least to hear "Oriental", or even "Jap".

Half Japanese may be the coolest band with little to no musical skills.

Super happy that_pope atm, IMO.

Q: How are the Giants like a flush?

Spoiler:
A: They beat 3 Aces

But I went like six years managing to ignore you!

Unfortunately Volquez is far from an ace, but it has been a nice, if not unexpected, run.

The irony of watching a youtube "rehab" mix and seeing an ad for a rehab facility between videos.

To be fair, that activity was listed in your year book as "one of the seven musts to have a great senior year".

Looking for any TV recommendations. Has to be 60' +and don't want to spend a billion dollars, anything you guys have that you love. Also contemplating wall hanging like a 50' and then two smaller ones on each side, would prob look pretty tacky but make sat/sun rather enjoyable.

hey guys, just an FYI. TPiranha (piranha on 2+2) is doing a well/thread here on 2+2. He's been one of the very top LHE players for the last several years. Definitely worth checking out and asking some questions imo:

I got Wal-Mart's best seller for like $400 and it's just fine. It's made by spectre or something.

I associate use of the term "oriental" with older Americans who are kinda set in their ways. It bugs some people more than others. I was also thinking about people who think the Washington Football Team's nickname is no big deal.

The other lexical observation I have is that people should just say "my feelings are hurt by that name" rather than "I'm offended!" which implies some kind of moral high horse and sets off a debate where no one is right.

As unplugged people, Visio smart TVs have been great. Their apps work well with all the streaming services.

We love our Samsung led
We were tempted by the curved tv, but just weren't sure about the newer technology.

So if I call you a douchebag, you shouldn't tell me you're offended? Wow.

I'd say telling people how they should be offended by an offensive name seems like even more of a moral high horse...

People can do whatever they want, and they will. I'm saying that "offending parties" (or whatever you wanna call them - douchebags, meanies, etc) would be more likely to change their minds if the message is "that hurts" rather than "you're being a d***", which is what "that offends me" is closer to.

I was always told oriental was offensive because its how you describe an object. As in a rug or vase can be oriental, a person can not

How about the Chargers of San Diego?
