Go out to dinner and have two drinks that are like $18 a piece. Have two a decide to be nice and switch to beer since wife is paying, have a couple with dinner and get the the check only to realize the beers were $24 a piece.... good one. I would rank the beer as one of the top 5 I've ever had so not a total loss.

What beer was it?

Not every married couple shares finances. Some people have two separate accounts, some have three (two individual and one joint).

It's always nice to count on the Raiders for a little slump buster. BOLT UP!!!

It just confounds me; why do fish just love waiting for the turn no matter what?

Guy limps and spewtard raises. I three bet AQo BB and they call.

Flop Q55 and I bet. Guy calls and apew raises. I three bet and they call.

Turn offsuit 6 and I'm not even done putting 8 chips in as the guy is grabbing a stack of 16 chips. We both fold.

Tru dat. There are four ways to learn this: the hard way, the easy way, the cheap way and the expensive way.

I expertly combined two of them: the hard way and the expensive way.

this is especially true when one of them is a professional poker player.

Rummy 500

player 1: 415
me: 350
dealer: 385

I get dealt

TJQK 456

I couldn't help myself from smiling because I was thinking that there's a surprise party for the dealer on Saturday night at player 1's house as I say, "You wouldn't believe the hand I was dealt."

Today I kill it 3 times in a row, and after each time the dealer pushes me the pot, she takes back the kill button. Then she puts it in front of me again while dealing the cards.

After the third kill (and the third time the dealer takes the kill button), I say aloud, "somebody keeps taking my kill button", and the guy next to me turns and says, "you're an *******, I oughta slap you you little bitch".

???

Later on, he and another guy are arguing about the card shuffler and how it keeps malfunctioning even after they changed the deck (btw, that NEVER works), and I say loudly "IT'S THE MACHINE, GUYS".

Dude turns to me and says "you're lucky we're in a cardroom and not outside in the parking lot."

IMR, WTF?!?!

Spoiler:
the guy was about 65 y.o. and smaller than me
The Omaha game is always good for some riled up old dude coming unglued. Friday night some old guy apparently slow-rolls another and gets called an a-hole. Dude starts screaming and wanting to take it outside. Both continue to throw verbal barbs back and forth but nothing actually transpires. The funniest part was the dealer acting like nothing was happening while she kept the game going with them on both sides (seats 2 and 8).

Living in a no-fault divorce state, do you need some holla big prenup to enforce that? I get the day to day finances being separate working for some people, but in the end it is money belonging to the collective. Right? If I go nuts watching Top Gear and buy a 911 on credit, I've obligated both of us (or our estate) when I sign the note. Thus when I get home from the Porche dealer with my (7 year?) loan, I just look her in the eye and say that we have separate finances? That's the part I don't understand. Oh, I actually know someone who did this.

You can say that it works great for pro players. Let's say the 1/2 at Commerce is fired up and all the world class geniuses are out of town for a donkament. You buy in, and the worlds most fun player decides 2/4 would be way funner and he offers to pay half your small blind if you stay. Now you have to play.

Does separate finances really help when you lose 4 racks? Either she trusted you to make good decisions with your in-the-end joint finances or not. You trusted her not to go out and buy stuff you couldn't afford. For the big stuff, I don't see how a married couple avoids mutual impact. For the day to day "fun money" side of things, I totally get how you can keep separate accounts and manage money independently. However, our mutually good credit is going to allow either one of us to dig uncomfortably big holes pretty fast. The realtor or the Tesla dealer will be happy to help.

Spoiler:
Also, I know all 911's are basically the same car.

Real deal in what respects? Managing games and keeping it within reach? He will not lead a team with 2 minutes left to win a game. He will not pass go. He will not collect $200.

A couple of friends who I know also play live NL for a living. One of them is married and the other is in a long term relationship since neither of them believe in marriage. I think they do it jointly but the guys have a box and carry cash on them. So some of their winnings turn in to play money. One couple just had a baby so she is at home now. The other couple the woman also makes pretty good money. I assume they rock it separately.

I was in the Army and when we deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, one of the guy's wives (or many of them) all made terrible financial decisions and dug a hole if not outright stole. (I was in an all male unit. I am sure the dude's married to women in the Army were also terrible). I know there are some people in the thread who play for a living. I would be interested to hear some responses to DougL's questions

Doug-

Your points are well-taken, but somewhat misplaced. I mean, do they make as much sense if neither partner buys anything on credit? (Especially a 911! )

I'd submit that if these shenanigans are happening, the big problem isn't separate finances.
11-17-2014 , 11:05 AM
I actually don't think separate finances are bad. I know several couples who love having it that way. It just always confused me to hear about how "that works because we have separate accounts". With the small stuff, it was always small. With the big stuff, you basically don't have separate accounts.

clearly true. If we can't agree on major decisions that impact both of us, some lawyer is getting richer
