Typical loose/passive B&M live game. It's a new table and it is only 7-handed. My only read on Villain is that he's aggressive and a decent player.

Hero is in BB. Villain limps, as do 3 others. SB folds. Hero wakes up with AK. Hero raises. All call

Flop: K 7 3 (Pot = 10 SB)
Action: Hero bets, Villain raises. All fold to Hero who calls .

Turn: 2 (Board: K 7 3 2 Pot = 7BB)
Action: Hero checks, Villain bets, Hero calls

River: J (Board: K 7 3 2 J Pot = 9BB)
Action: Hero checks, Villain checks

Questions:
1. Should I have re-popped the flop?
2. Should I have check-raised the turn when no flush came?
3. Should I bet the river for value or intend to check-call?

Results forthcoming.

Since the pot was heads up, you have plenty of options. Calling the flop and check/calling the turn was probably your worst option that doesn't involve folding.

If you think there was a chance villain would check through the turn (or you've seen him use the free card play), your best line probably is to bet/3bet the flop and lead turn. This line probably also makes the hand "easiest" to play.

If you're confident he'll bet the turn, you can call flop and go for a turn c/r.

If you think villain would raise a turn donk w/ KQo or KJ, then I would call flop and bet/3bet turn. I also love this line since it makes a pot so big, you'll get more crying calls on the river.

You needed to put a raise in somewhere. Personally I prefer to do it on a big bet street on a board like this and I hold TPTK. However, your best default play is probably to bet/3bet flop.

I 3bet the flop and lead turn.

3bet the flop.

even if you bet/call the flop, i don't like going for a turn checkraise because a large portion of his range that's playing like this will be those with a flush draw. the turn checking through would be nasty.

Good read, shane8888. In retrospect, I wish I had at least 3-bet bet the flop and/or check-raised the turn if he were on a diamond draw. When he checked down the river and tabled KQ, I knew I missed a few value bets on the turn.

A FD seems pretty unlikely here. One it's a LP live game, two, he's got the whole field behind him which he probably wouldn't want to raise out.

Go for a turn CR here, however; if anyone coldcalls smash 3 bets in there like you're Mike Tyson.

I totally agree.

I think others have said it well, but you need to raise somewhere. The safe thing to do is re-raise the flop and lead the turn, making sure you get the raise in when you're confident your ahead (waiting til the turn might expose you to a third diamond). That's the line I usually take.

Barring that, check/raise the turn.

Barring that, donk the river.

On that flop he can really only have two things: Diamonds or a King that you almost certainly beat. Eitherway, you should make him pay as much as you can.

call-call-bet is like the saddest line you could take aside from c/c/c/c/c/c/c/c/c/c/c/c//c

Great advise, all, Thanks. I'm working on being more aggressive when I encounter some resistance. It's earned me a few extra bets.
