Customer is always right!

Lawl hand from last night.

One limper and I raise JJ, flop is J22 and I end up losing a bunch of bets to KJ.

You should always lose a bunch of bets when the turn and river go perfect-perfect for your opponent.

But of course... just another day where I'm on the wrong side of variance rapage.

I also got to watch another 2p2er go go like 6 bets on the river with the nut straight. Unfortunately he read the board wrong and the other guy's nut flush better than his nut straight... aiiiiya!

Sounds like something Analyst would do.

PSA: Your bank account has not been deactivated. You do not need to click on the link. And if for whatever reason you do, don't enter your account number and password.

IMR. Does IT really need to send out a warning every time a wave of phishing E-mails hits our inboxes?

Apparently so, because multiple people fell for this one.

Someone went old school on me a couple days ago. Recorded voice "The interest rate on your credit card has gone up, please press '8' to be connected to an operator who can help you return your card to the old rate". I wonder how much the get from people via phone phishing?

Wastson article about how IBM should make a poker bot. Loltastic excerpt:

Adding a third player is the equivalent of going from a 2-D world to a 3-D world: The one-on-one matchup unfolds into a trio of one-on-two relationships. The concept of a "right move" for any given situation goes out the window, and the delicate strategic equilibrium is ruined. The strategies of the three players become hopelessly intertwined—and now hinge on both statistical assessments and psychological ones. Bowling described one experiment in which three computers—or "bots"—had reached a virtual stalemate in a simplified version of three-player Hold 'Em. To test this delicate balance, they switched one of the machine players over to a simple (and generally unadvisable) "always raise" strategy. To their surprise, the always-raise bot didn't lose much ground. The bot to its left, however, cleaned up—and the one to its right had to mortgage the farm.

I hung up on an actual customer service rep from my credit card because he started telling me how there might be unauthorized activity on my credit card and I assumed it was a phone phishing scam.

Then he called back and I realized it wasn't.

[And then I accidentally canceled the card on my wife who flew down to LA to visit her sister. That's what you get for telling me you're not going to shop and then shopping anyway, honey! ]

Pretty sure this is how mntndrew built up his 20/40 bankroll - by sitting directly to the left of my "always raise" strategy.

Nice link, thanks.

Hah, yeah Home Depot Credit Services called me and asked me if I wanted to make a payment on my account because they hadn't received one yet and I was about to get a late charge assessed, and I was like, "yah right you ****ing scammer!". But then they rattled off a bunch of stuff about my account no one should know, and I was like "Oh OK. Thank you for saving me $50 in late fees sir."

A bot doesn't have to be anywhere near optimal to win. Back in the day, on the old irc.poker.net server, r00lbot cleaned up in the lowest-limit games playing a dumbed-down Sklansky-&-Malmuth strategy implemented by a perl script.

Old time grind reg talked to me yesterday and told me 2010 was his first losing year since 1980. He used to play HUGE and is now down to 20/40.

No money in poker. Everyone solid

But seriously 20/40 is still super soft. No way you should lose there if you're good.

I'm not saying he's good. I'm saying he can't beat live 20 and apparently won 29 years in a row playing the biggest games he could find.

He did **** like stay at holiday inn for 5 months so he could play at the oaks everyday.

Hearing this stuff just kills me inside. Think of all the easy money I could have won if I were 50.

But then I'd be 50, which is a beat. So I guess it's a wash.

You'll think differently about it when you're 50.

Old men ITT.

2pm and I need to get back to work, so I rack up on my BB in the must-move and cash in my chips. I walk over to HammerinHank's table and BS with him a bit, and then walk by the main game on the way out. The floorman says "Captain R, you going home, you just got moved to the main game", and they let me weasel my way into the main game (where you get to enter behind the button for free). One free orbit in this game is worth like $30 or something, so I sit in the CO.

MP limps, I raise K5, BB calls, MP calls.

Flop: AAA??!!? (3 players, 6.5 sb)
They check, I bet, BB folds, MP calls and says "OK, I'll pay you off."

Turn: 7 (2 players, 4.25 bb)
MP check-calls.

River 3 (2 players, 6.25 bb)
We both check, he says "Q-high" and shows QT and I take it down. I fold my way to the BB and quit. Easy game.

And to defend my board-reading honor, I feel obligated to point out that Bravos loses to not only the perfect-perfect 22 but also running Kings (of which are 3 combos). He was only a 246:1 favorite on the flop.

Bigger beat for Bravos was not getting to watch the Sharks take apart the Caps (again).

But I did... and it only cost me 1 rack of yellow to do so!

Actually had the AAA flop twice yesterday and failed to hit the jackpot.

Been a year since I had a subscription, just re-upped and watching the leap. You deserve a commission.
