Since the program is free the check is mainly to check your version and notify you of updates. When a new version is available a popup will tell you that at start and it will also warn you of potential problems with the old version you may be running.
We found doing this dramatically reduced the amount of customer service work I have to do because no one used to update and then PokerStars would make a software change and I would get hundreds of emails from people asking why things didn't work for a period of several months.
I too love the aero theme, its so much nicer to look at, and I have a nice graphics card so aero lets my graphics card pitch in and everything runs way faster
I'm glad I'm not alone in my Aero love.
I can't make any promises, but if we reach a point where were we are waiting on something for the Stars version, releasing a quick fix for custom mods definitely might happen.

Thanks, glad things are working. I haven't done as much Win7 testing with TableNinjaFT so this is good to hear.
The one windows 7 issue we are aware of is that assigning hotkeys to mouse buttons may not work. To work around this you can run the program in compatibility mode for Vista SP2 and everything should work 100%

We've had 3 people report variations of this problem and it always went away when AHK was turned off and rebooted as it did for you at first. I don't know why the problem would return and we're definitely looking into it. TableNinjaFT should work on XP for tilers, I recommended upgrading before to ixmike because for stackers/cascaders who need the time bank feature they really need aero so that we can detect the timebank on background tables.
We are trying to determine the cause of this issue on XP and you everything except time bank *should* work on an XP system and does for most people but there is obviously some kind of bug we haven't yet isolated and fixed that is affecting some people.

This is definitely on the todo list, its very confusing currently you are right.
