TR - Pool, Poker, etc in Las Vegas TR - Pool, Poker, etc in Las Vegas

Thought I would do a little write up on my trip to Vegas last week (mainly the pool portion obviously). It was only a 6 night trip sadly, due to holiday constraints from work. Main purpose to meet my friend who although originally from Scotland has been resident in Denver for about 10 years. We have a long history of pool from here in the UK and have played 1000's of games. With roughly a 3-2 average score in my favour. Although he does have a table in his house now and really should be getting better whereas I hardly play at all nowadays, but have had a few snooker outings recently (best effort 48).

So we had pencilled in Wednesday for pool session after going to watch the Madrid v Barca match. After the initial diffculties of the day which involved me having to wake him up by phone, we went to the Crown and Anchor (British pub!) for the game. Would recommend for any soccer watching.

After this took a cab to Pool Sharks and got ourselves a table. Decided to abondon our more usual approach and instead play race to 10's of various different games. Started of with 8-ball (but with silly rules like no 2-shots after foul and stuff). I suffer a 5-10 loss. Neither player showing a great deal of ability or consistency. Move on to 9-ball where I promptly win 10-1 in short order. Then on to 10-ball which neither of us have ever played. Definitely provided a significantly different game to 9-ball with just the one extra ball. Interesting. I lose 6-10, although he did majorly luck the 10 a couple of times. Then a race to 100 at 14.1. I eventually win by about 20 but no great streaks. And we finished off by trying out one-pocket for a while. Good game that really makes you think a lot about outcomes of various shots. 2-1 in my favour.

And that was that for the pool. Which was a shame. I thought Pool Sharks was a decent place to play. We were paying about $9/hour. Beer was cheap - can't remember exactly but certainly under $10 a pitcher. Nice quality table and a range of house cues to choose from. And a reasonable cab ride from the Strip - $15 - $20 or so. Would certainly recommend and will most likely return there next time.
Only took one pic on my phone (not great but gonna post it anyway) - 9-ball with you to play - what to try ??

Note that trying the bank/double to opposite middle looked like you would get a double kiss so I was ruling it out.

Poker - played a few mid-stakes tournies at Caesars and Venetian, both of which are nice to play at. Picked up $1400 in a $110 and $320 in an $85, although had re-entered in that one. So that paid for some of the rest of general tomfoolery of the week, mostly overindulging in the booze department.

Etc - went to Steel Panther - hilarious. Rat Pack Is Back - pretty good. Penn & Teller - awesome.

Great trip overall - roll on the next one when I can a) have enough cash and b) get enough time off

Cheers

Must be able to double that either with the cross double or the standard bank with some screw.

Hmm, well if the nine was about a quarter of an inch higher the billiard would be deader than Kelsey's nuts.

As the shot lies, double bank (for you UK guys would that be a treble, or a double double?) the eight to the middle of the top rail and stick snow to the high side of the nine. You'll leave the other guy treetopped with no shot. Nice talkin' to ya.
