That episode was even better than I remembered. Besides the Omar scenes, you have Nick visiting Prop Joe and being told that "Fool, if it wasn't for Serge here, you and your cuz both would be cadaverous mother****ers.", Ziggy then lighting a hundo on fire right after Nick saves his ass, and finally the cherry on the top of the cake is D'Angelo being murdered.

GOAT episode.

ETA: Forgot this line from Prop Joe: "I got mother****in' nephews and in-laws ****ing all my **** up all the time and it ain't like I can pop a cap in their ass and not hear about it Thanksgivin' time." Cracks me up every time.

I'm not sure if the HD thing is real or not but it does start airing on September 4th. If it really is in HD maybe it will come to blu-ray soon.

HAHAHA. I'm currently semi-binging The Wire and just saw the scene where Herc

Spoiler:

walks in on the Mayor to find him getting a blowjob on his desk.

So unexpected, and so perfect.

The former may be my least favorite scene of the series because of how stupid and how long it was. The latter is easily in my top 5 moments.

Wire in HD is coming for real:

Sounds like HBO, Simon and Co. put a lot of effort into the re-master. I'm excited to see the results.

It isn't going to be in its original aspect ratio. I don't think Simon realized that you can have 4x3 high definition. Simon admits that new framing (chopping off from the top and/or bottom of the picture to get 16x9 from 4x3) hurts some scenes.

Having it in HD will be nice, but they should have stuck with the original aspect ratio. Losing picture sucks.

It sounds like Simon put some work into it, but he didn't have control over the decision to go widescreen with it and on the whole he is clearly not crazy about that at all. He made the best he could of a bad situation, and he is basically saying that sure for the morons who can't stand to watch something that doesn't fill up all the space on their HD television, the 16:9 version of The Wire is "okay" as an alternate version. But for those of us who care about how things were filmed, how shots were framed and composed, etc., the 4:3 version is and should be gospel.
