I think I might see scars on his face but I would expect to see real obvious scars.

I thought they were fairly obvious scars. But they knew about the scarred face man in 95 when super detective talked to the lawn mower man. He had a scrappy beard not a thick one. I don't nit on small things but this seems like a big hole in the plot to me

Yea this makes sense and it could be the Fontenot girl.

He was the same, except in 1995 he had a beard.

He definitely had scars on the side of his face. Watch that final scene again. They are like burn scars.

agree but i'll remain optimistic. will be disappointed if hart's daughter doesn't play a bigger role considering the attention she's received so far.

because hart honked the horn after getting a tip over dispatch. rust was skeptical of dude and wanted to question further but hart stole his attention.

And then the present day cop just drives off.

Kind of meshes with the line about "clues being right under your face."

Sounded like Cohle was planning to end it all after he wraps this up.

Foreshadowing him not surviving whatever confrontation is coming?

seems like the only cliffhanger left, if they survive

He still spoke with him face to face for a couple minutes

Probably nothing, but Maggie is sort of giving off a suspicious vibe in 2012. Still a chance she knows something Marty/Rusty don't

Keep in mind that Rust talked to him while the man was sitting on the mower, so he wouldn't get a great sense of his height. Also his face was slightly turned and had the beard, so he didn't get a great shot of it.

But, yeah, Marty stole Rust's attention before he could follow up on it and then ran with the Ledoux angle. He could have perhaps thought about why someone paying this guy would add a school that was abandoned on his work order of properties to maintain?

right, but i'm not sure if he knew to look for scars during that convo. i do remember sensing cohle was skeptical of the guy and hart interrupted his train of thought. this is a super minor detail, but as i recall that convo cohle was facing the guys left side and we've only seen scars on his right side.

Yet a grown man met him once 30+ years ago and remembers the scars from across a room?

Uhhh...because those people had memorable, awkward, creepy experiences with him?

Whereas Rust is talking to lots of people, going through all sorts of evidence, and nothing the man did at the time he spoke to him jumped out at him?

If by disturbing you mean awesome I wholeheartedly agree. That whole scene was so precise. The set up with mineral rights (are we getting money outta this? Oh yeah.) The 90 year old black woman that everyone thinks is crazy provides the most and best information with total control--clearheaded and pleasant. The strange comment about "back in those days, men kept their house (something like that?)--as a means of explaining all the out-of-wedlock kids and the link between that cover-up and other cover-ups. Then she goes absolutely southern gothic schizo as the deathly music kicks in after being shown the symbols of death---flawless victory.

I also love how Marty and Rust both described their kinda boring/terrible personal lives completely honestly to each other. Marty, particularly, has been particularly prone to the say one thing/the audience gets shown another thing. So, I loved how the show subtly demonstrated their honesty to each other in order to set up the trust necessary to kidnap a police sheriff.

Really amazing stuff altogether.

"Get out of here, you're classing the place up"---that one's going in my vault.

And rust..didn't see them? He was then called back to his car by Marty and they went hot on the Reggie Ledoux trail.

This isn't my opinion. This is what the story is. You don't like it? Oh well.

Brag: the wife called Tuttle or the lawn mower guy during EP 2 yesterday. 'Twas a binge rewatch for me but her first viewing. She's decent at TV.

Plus the speculation about the father-in-law or Marty being involved. Without letting speculation wander down those paths, there were very few innocuous elements other than the lawnmower man.

As much as the scandal itself sprawled, both in reality and in Rust's mind, the investigation followed a pretty direct path with very few dead ends or misdirections. A few easter eggs might've been planted to keep viewers off the scent. Would Rust have been able to figure out all the stuff they did in 2012 back in 2002 if he had stayed on it, and done the database work Marty did?

You can't really blame the writers for cheating. How many people would've noticed that stuff on their own? We're cheating by using the Internet to help us watch the show!
I was pleasantly surprised they didn't make it a personal vendetta with Marty. This show doesn't need to sink to Taken depths. Other peoples' kids need protecting too--that might be the ****ing theme of the show in fact.

Not a bad idea, but I'll go full marathon right after the finale airs.
