I honestly believe that Stephen factored in the possibility of the three girls working against his group with Jeremy and Spencer. If they don't everything is awesome. If they do flip then Stephen is the least likely to be targeted and taking out Jeremy or Spencer is somewhat beneficial to Stephen.

The most likely time for Joe to lose immunity is in the next two votes and if he does he is pretty much an auto boot. If that happens and Jeremy or Spencer are also taken out of the game then Stephen is in a pretty golden position as at F8 there will be two groups of three. Meaning Stephen and friend will be in the swing position.
