I haven't watched this show Colby is hosting, but I do think he'd be a pretty outstanding replacement if Probst bolts. I don't think Probst is replaceable (I think he's far and away the best host of anything ever, and that's not an exaggeration), but if he decides to leave the show, Colby is the ideal replacement. He obviously has major Survivor ties, he's super likable (to 99% of the audience), he's good looking, he's got acting and hosting experience, and he'd bring a bit of excitement to the show. Any contract he signs would start in the fall, which is always going to be a non-ASS season, so he'd headline the promos and probably bring back a small portion of the audience that remembers him from S2 and S8.

Sadly, I do think Probst will bolt before Survivor goes off the air for good. At this point, there's no reason to think Survivor will die any time soon, and Probst is just way too good to be stuck in the same job for 15 years, even if it is fun. He'll eventually get his own non-gameshow show on a major network channel, and he'll be awesome at it.

i am, i cross-post most of my pictures from that site

unfortunately that site is rampant with spoilers and its user base is mostly women with pms and gays, so it doesn't provide any normal discussion

Swear I read news at the end of last season about Probst getting his own talk show. And weren't there possible rumours of him taking over for Larry King at some point? I know a bunch of people have subbed in for LK but I thought I read something once about Probst possibly being his permanent replacement whenever it happens.

Last year I remember an interview with...maybe Probst...but definitely someone of significance saying they were going to start alternating all star seasons with new cast seasons.

But it is because they have been doing back to back seasons in the same locations (19 and 20) and now 21 and 22. It saves a ton of money and having even number seasons be some sort of special season is a decent idea as long as they always bring back the obvious people.

I think they need to bring back some of the great winners for S24, along with the people who deserve another round (Cesternino)

At some point, I hope they do a "pre-jury" season. It'd be like a whole new cast to the audience, but it'd still be returning players. People like Savage from Pearl Islands, Brook from Vanuatu, Aaron from China, Nick from Panama, Mikey B. and Tracy from FvsF, Ace from Gabon, Spencer from Tocantins, and Billy from Cook Islands would be a pretty decent start. Throw in a couple injured people (Mike Skupin and Black Russell), add hot chicks (Sydney, Kelly from Gabon, etc.), and you'd have a pretty interesting cast imo.

AKA a "second chance season" which I know was somewhat discussed by the producers (season 24 one time?)

those are some good choices kos, here is my addition to your list (not necessarily pre-merge):
-Silas from Africa
-Marisa from Samoa
-Greg from Borneo (coconut phone anyone?)
-Mary from Micronesia (**** you Joel)
-Caoboi from Cook Islands
-Collen from Borneo (deep, but pagonged due to elements out of her control)
-Brendan from Tocantins
-Gina from Marquesas
-Jeff from Australia
-Hunter from Marquesas
-Jolanda from Palau
-Robb from Thailand
-Michelle from Gabon
-Joe from Tocantins (medivac)
-Misty from Panama
-Rector from Marquesas
-Ashley from Samoa

why do people get such hardons for returning players? As if seeing a 10 years older Silas is something people stay up at night dreaming of.

I'd rather see Ace, Billy, and Mikey B. for a second (almost first) time than see 90% of the new players they cast. With those returning players, you know you're getting an interesting and potentially smart player back, where the new people are mostly hit or miss. Plus, this would obviously be a semi-All-Star type season, so I'd certainly prefer the new-old people over seeing Rupert and Amanda for the 400th time.

I mean, why mess with Billy's Survivor story? Could he possibly top his CI appearance on "Second Chance Survivor"?

Of course not, but why does he need to top it? I'm not sure he'd be a return candidate anyway, and he was kind of annoying on Cesternino's podcast, but he'd be an interesting character if he actually lasted more than a week. People like Ace, Tracy, Aaron, and Mikey B. definitely deserve another shot, though, and I'm in favor of bringing back interesting/smart people who got shafted vs. bringing in 20 new players, 15+ of whom are completely forgettable and stupid.

Does anyone ever feel that it is the intended effects of editing that dictates which characters are in fact memorable on certain seasons?

For example, S19 Samoa potentially had a few interesting characters on the Galu side (such as Kelly, John, etc...), but they got barely no screen time until their elimination episodes. When a player like Russell is on 50% of the confessionals and has 90% of the screen time, it just becomes nearly impossible for some characters to even get the opportunity to appear interesting, especially when its halfway through the season and you realize "Who the **** is that guy" (LOL Brett)

Kos, you do bring up an excellent point about the tendency of new people to suck in the entertainment department (boring arse mactors)

Oh and I really need to re-watch China, because I have a hard time recalling Aaron (it was a long time ago, to be fair)

Yeah...and he finished third in the fan voting. I think that pretty much sums up the Samoa cast.

It's amazing how many of the people they get for the show aren't fans. I could understand it if the hardcore fans were boring and the mactors were interesting, but again, Samoa is a perfect example. Who were the two most popular characters? Shambo and Russell. Who were the two biggest fans of the show? Shambo and John, with Russell #3. Meanwhile, Brett, Kelly, and the other invisibles? All mactors. It's just piss-poor casting.

John had never seen the show before he was cast. Natalie was a huge fan beforehand. I believe Jaison was a fan of the show before he was cast as well.
Still though, i think generally the point is valid, but that season was so skewed by the focus on Russell.

Are you sure about John? I remember reading that he was a very big fan of the show.
