Im pretty sure the realistic response is the inmates inciting a riot, or the movie being used as some sort of torture for solitary inmates

Spoiler:
Just finished the season, thought it was really good. Interested to see where the 2nd season takes the characters. Doubt it's the last we've seen of Biggs' character. Also, I guess they knew they were renewing the series b/c there were so many open plots. HOC tied up things much nicer than this series. Not that it's a bad thing for OISNB.

Neither of those two characters were in the finale episode in any way.

For such a nitty forum I can't believe how many free passes this show is getting. The following things are pretty lol: Two co-conspirators ending up in the same prison, especially when one of them was a major trafficker responsible for kilos of heroin and the other took a bag of money through an airport once. MURDERERS (plural!) ending up in an ultra minimum security prison. A drug overdose suicide being staged as a hanging suicide after the fact; also, a suicide in a prison without an autopsy or any kind of investigation at all. ANY of the plotlines involving a 2-3 month pregnant woman staging her pregnancy as coming from somewhere else. Huge freezer bags of drugs just being shipped in with lettuce. Jason Biggs' continued existence as a professional actor.

I'm sure there are more, but that's off the top of my head. I'm not trying to say the show is terrible, it clearly isn't. It's definitely average to above average. But with the nittery that goes on over Breaking Bad and shows like that, I can't believe people are giving this an A+ with no real criticisms. Plenty of lazy writing, imo.

I really enjoyed the show. I thought the dialog was great and the writers are superb... I don't think the trackstar died because she's in the Xmas play in the last episode. However, I do feel that something significant will transpire from the power surge, especially with it being carried over into the following scene.

I'm not sure that was a shout out. Let's Potato Chips is used as a prop in a lot of different stuff.

Not sure if she did kill her, but the rest of this is definitely correct.

Finished Season 1 today. I enjoyed the whole season and it definitely kept me entertained. Was it the greatest show ever made? Of course not, but I don't understand a lot of the hate. I felt it was very well cast and very well written. Most of the characters were played perfectly which made it easy to get involved in the plot. I'll definitely be watching Season 2 when it is out.

One of my favorite scenes was when crazy eyes did the Shakespeare during the scared straight program. I also really liked how there were plenty of story lines going on throughout the show. The ending was good too. Didn't expect it to finish like it did.

I just finished and that ending was a total mind**** to me. I guess not exactly unpredictable but still caught me off guard. Wow.

just finished this and i liked it alot , the thing i liked the most were the characters , i liked almost all of them and their personalities ...my only complaint is that some of the storylines were telegraphed / too predictable , especially vause / piper / larry storyline ,when larry's father told him not tell piper about vause naming her you knew exactly how that was going play out (and that happened pretty early in the show) but other than that im looking forward to next season .

alot of the plots/storylines are pretty lol but i dont think the show takes itself too seriously but at the same time it never gets too silly and im fine with that .

It's also not a plot driven show, it's all about the characters and their changing relationships with each other. So who cares if it makes sense.

Listened to this episode of The Moth yesterday - http://themoth.org/posts/stories/wall-of-sound

It's a short story from the creator of the show based on her time in prison. Worth the listen.

Just finished the season....like most itt, I loved it. The character development over the season was incredible. With how big the recurring cast is the show still gave proper time for every character to grow and gave us insight to them. Heck, even Pornstache had a moment where we think 'this guy isn't so bad'.

Poussey stood out to me as awesome, and I loved the her/taystee friendship scenes. My favorite stuff of the season was probably the scared straight stuff, pure gold.

2 questions!

1. Why is Tiffany Doggett called "Pennsatucky"? I must have missed that explanation, I actually assumed it was her last name until late in the season.

2. Why do people hate Jason Biggs/think he's so bad at acting? I thought he was fine/good in this.

It is used to describe the vast wasteland between Philly and Pittsburgh, and relates that area to Kentucky. Leave Virginia out of this.

Thinking back on it a few days after finishing, the scene where Taystee explains how hard it was out of prison/how at least inside she knows what's what and has the basic needs (bed, food) met stands out as a highlight for me. Obv have heard of this being a pretty common thing -- inmates who get out and can't successfully re-enter society and end up committing some (oftentimes and hopefully) petty crime just to get back in, but I thought the scene was a great and really poignant illustration of that.

Ya its amplified because Taystee and Puse are usually just very happy and serve as comedic relief on the show and then you see them both get very serious.

One thing bugged me and its just a nit. In the kitchen there is a bigass full kniferack on the wall and when Mendez and Red are talking she has a very lethal looking knife she is chopping up food with and they go ape**** over a missing screwdriver when anyone could go to the kitchen and grab one of these knives..
Orange is the New Black on Netflix Quote

I am assuming they have a similar way of checking to make sure all the knives are there(although Red somehow has access to that place 24/7 because she tried to sabotage the hispanic ladies in the middle of the night). I just try to suspend belief in these situations.

Not to mention a kitchen knife would be pretty hard to hide consistently.

I'm a fan after three episodes.

First one was probably the weakest.
