I'm not going to read this thread (11 pages), does anyone else feel that when the smoke monster was introduced in season 1 the writers hadn't even CONCEIVED of the idea of Jacob or the man in black, or quite frankly, even the time traveling ****? They're just throwing it all together now imo.

"Oh, yeah, the new John Locke is actually the smoke monster. Yep." And now you morons are going "LETS TRY TO PREDICT WHAT'LL HAPPEN NEXT" lmaoo. This show could go "actually, Jack Shepard is Barack Obama" and you all would be like "omg...who is Kate?!!" and then spend a thousand posts debating whether or not Kate is Madonna or Hillary Clinton.

Do you people at least thing the smoke monster being the guy from the past and being John Locke reincarnate is incredibly stupid?

Long reply to Taso:

I don' know about you or others in this thread man, but I can speak for myself (and I'm pretty sure others see this similarly) that I ENJOY speculating about this show.

I enjoy speculating about it, WHILE BEING FULLY AWARE, that it's a goddamn TV show. That's the point, no? Watching a TV show for enjoyment? If I can increase said enjoyment by speculating about Jack = BO, Kate = HC, then I'm gonna do that.

Short reply to Taso: GTFO

oh man, now i feel guilty for bringing negativity to this thread. my bad ya'll. I've scanned a bit of the thread, I was expecting a lot more angry Lost fans because I was very disappointed by the man in black = smoke monster thing.

I was also wondering if anyone felt the same way.

Not at all. The story made not be fully created when you start out, but you have an outline of it in your head at the least.

Also, they've said Jacob was in the pilot?

it this what you are thinking?
Yes

Basically they are talking about the smoke monster and when Eko saw the smoke monster he saw the black dark cloud we always see. When he asks Locke what he saw, Locke says something along the lines of: "I saw a beautiful white light". [S3E5]

When describing the same encounter to Jack [S1E5], Locke says: I looked into the eye of the Island, and what I saw... was beautiful,"

Does that sound like someone who just saw a killer black death cloud?

Why is Locke's description of the smoke monster not what we see on screen?

Right.

I was trying to remember that scene. I can't remember the actual monster, but they showed their faces looking at it and there definitely was a bright light, presumably from the smoke monster. I'll try to find it and watch it again because I can't remember the details and at this point I'm not even sure if it wasn't lightning or something I'm remembering. I can just remember bright light flashing off their faces. I want to say that was the first time we saw the smoke monster around people and not kill one of them.

Does he actually say it's white? I remember him saying that he saw the eye of the island and that it was beautiful..

I <3 Taso, he probably just hasn't watched the whole show and doesn't know what he's talking about right now.
02-05-2010 , 04:30 AM
Is that just a flash though? I thought it was the lightning crackling inside it.

It's definitely not a lightning. If you got access to all the episodes, it's in season 3 ep 15, 21 minutes in.

They are being chased by the monster (presumably the monster at least, since we never see it, but the sound effects are "monster sound effects"). They hide inside some natural bamboo cage thingy. The monster comes closer (we see this scene in monster POV), then the flashes occur. After that the monster (POV) retreats backwards, leaving them without harm.

Sometimes details like that are tough for me to explain (again, not a native speaker), so if anything is unclear, ask.

Cool so my memory is pretty good. You described it well.

I found a youtube clip it's after the catfight. Definitely doesn't seem like the usual smoke monster. I was far from sold on there being a second one based on there being gray effects sometimes, but this seems a lot different and they seemed to go out of their way to not show what it looked like.

will bet up to 500 that there is no jacob-styled white smoke monster

when ben goes down to the temple basement place to talk w/ smokey, there is a carving on the wall, showing smokey talking to an egyptian god sitting crosslegged on the ground. smokey= MIB and god guy= jacob, ez

Booked for $250

only $250, because tbh I think you're a favourite to win and I'm a poor SSNL grinder. Still I think, there's a decent chance for there being two smokeys and I just wanna win a bet vs you.

I don't think we need an escrow. You should know me from DC and I certainly have no doubt that you are trustworthy.

(if you wanna escrow, though, that's fine aswell. We'd just need to find one. Tubasteve maybe?)

Conditions:

- More than one smokey - I win (i.e. doesn't have to be "jacob-styled white smoke monster")

- Only one smokey - you win

I'm not going to bet but I'm on the same page as sugar. I think there is a pretty good chance that there is a second smoke monster, or something similar, but it's less than a coin flip probably.

There is definitely something weird about Locke's description and that scene, but it could easily just be for dramatic effect and Locke having a hard on for the mystical stuff associated with the island.
