lol...I loved The Village until the reveal that
Spoiler:
Adrien Brody was the monster in the pit
. The atmosphere really sold me.

Yes, it was interesting until it wasn't. I gave up on Night after (or during, not sure) that movie.

Dom,

Are you mocking the show, or did you really not get that after watching the episode?

Well, I was grading papers at the same time, so I wasn't paying close attention...but I really didn't get that...if they showed a close up of the fishing pic, I missed it.

But yeah, thinking back on those scenes it does seem fairly obvious now.

Dom,

Yeah, they went to a closeup of the fishing pic and held there (DAMN, LOOKS JUST LIKE THE GUY, OH WAIT!!!), then switched and held a shot of the other bed with the same unpacked bedroll or whatever as the first shot when he entered the cell. I didn't get it while they were talking, but they made it super clear after the fact.

the episode wasn't THAT bad. compare it to anything you see on network tv(scandal, blacklist, madame secretary, ect...) and this episode doesn't stand out as bad at all.

Other than maybe Scandal, where it's a tossup, all of those shows' most recent episodes were better than this one.

Rather than having Charlie bump his head and go bye-bye, they should've crashed the damn flight from Moscow to Havana.

No more Jim and Maggie sitting in a tree...

Super obvious that Will was in the cell alone the whole time, but I did not pick up that it was his dad until the pic reveal.

Oh wow didn't pick up on that at all, and I wasn't grading papers or anything.

Still, I wouldn't mind being the meat in a Mac/Sloan sandwich.

It's so amusing how massively people don't get it. I can't think of another artists work more thoroughly misunderstood that Sorkin. People critique his work like they are viewing a poorly executed documentary, as if Sorkin is trying to be Erol Morris and failing. It like critiquing porn for not showing real sex. Porn is kabuki sex; Sorkin is kabuki intelligencia. It's fantasy wish fulfilment for those who who have read more than the Hungar Games and Twilight. Of course it's absurdist, not as a failure to achieve realism but by design.

btw- that the only person on board with this episode is smugly laughing at everyone else bc we simply "don't get it" is the least surprising thing ever.

We all realize that it is juvenile fantasy wish fulfillment on Sorkin's part and aren't terribly impressed by it.

The Newsroom is a documentary. How else do you explain the goofy faux documentary style shooting, and several of The Office people joining the cast? I think it's an homage to The Office. It's a documentary of a mockumentary...today's news.

Which is why every second post is about how this story wouldn't get on the air, or that lawyer wouldn't do x or no news source would do y.

I don't think I've ever commented on what a lawyer would do or if a story would make it on air when talking about this show

why not just say that then? maybe you already posted itt and i missed it- if so i apologize- but you just seemed to immediately want to shift the goalposts. i don't think many people's criticisms of the show are due to a misunderstanding of the show or its intent.
