Episode was the best of the season. Will is the best character on television, Don Keefer is in the top 5.

Yeah, that was a strange episode. It's was really only decent because of some of the laughs. I'm not exactly sure the entire point of why the episode structured the way it was.

Could certainly use a bit more of the OWS Redhead as well.

I thought that was a good episode. Surprising because it featured Maggie.

Thought it was the best episode of the show so far. I like how they showed flaws, particularly how much people can overestimate themselves: little stuff like Haile saying "I've done this longer than you, I got you on the bus" and the OWS lady saying "I teach college" are the sort of insecurity slash overconfidence dynamics that I think a lot of intellectual types have. The Africa stuff was genuinely tense. Maggie's depiction of someone fighting to make sense of a traumatic situation (and imo succeeding on some level, but nevertheless struggling with it) was another part that worked well. Only bad part was the piano music in the background while Will and the teacher talked.

As a NH resident, the constant butchering of town pronounciations is grunching. You're telling me that the front desk lady at the hotel doesn't know how to pronounce Concord?

Yeah, this. I started out thinking it was terrible, and there was some awful dialogue and the 'coincidence' of the OWS woman having a link to Genoa, but I thought it was pretty hilarious how no-one from ACN could resist the temptation to be smug to the OWS woman, and I actually found the Maggie story surprisingly compelling. The Jim stuff is still not particularly interesting, and if he really wanted a big story he would have just run with "go **** yourself, that's the official statement of the Romney campaign" instead of bartering for something clearly less interesting that he could give away.

Yeah that opening deposition scene? That was just weird. PRO TIP LAWYER LADY: If you're going to see if someone is still capable of laughter (but seriously don't do this wtf) then instead of saying bizarre nonsense maybe try to be funny? I mean that dialogue was imo indistinguishable from what a SNL skit poking fun of Sorkin's writing style would be.

Yeah I hated that. In the first scenes we saw of the lawyer lady, she was a total hard-ass, and now she's cracking jokes? It's like they totally rearranged her character. There was someone else who was acting completely out of character too, but I forget who it was.

Also, the guy who hangs around with Jim and Hallie and has his first and last names rearranged is not even remotely amusing.

I'm usually kind of an apologist for this show, but the way the episode was going at the halfway point, I'm kinda surprised it didn't end up being the worst episode yet.

I'm confused, am I supposed to understand what this thing about some General who said something and Maggie etc is all about yet, or is it yet to be revealed?

I've never seen grunching used that way, is that what you meant to type?

Damn, that Uganda story was easily the worst thing this show has done yet, which says something.

JFC the maggie story line is the worst thing this show has done, which is saying a lot. White girl goes to africa for a day and learns an important life lesson when a little black orphan is gunned down on her back. The whole thing was a huge miss. The framing device made little sense. Why is she going over all this in such painstaking detail in a deposition about another event? Sure her state of mind might be tangentially relevant but it seems ridiculous for her to pour over the lurid details of the day. It is just an excuse to drag out the sappy melodrama in a very special episode of the newsroom. It really is a shame because Pill is a gifted actress. I will say I really love marcia gay harden as the lawyer. Her banter with pill at the beginning was great and filled with classic sorkin wit. How do you get to Uganda? Practice.

Jim's nh snooze fest finally seems over. I actually began to like meryl streep jr, I thought she did a decent job with sorkin dialogue although that final vassar statement during the kiss was impossible to pull off.

OWS interview was good, apology storyline was decent and provided some nice comic relief that didn't involve people falling over chairs or being punched in the balls.

Genoa storyline continues to be interesting.

Overall I would say this is the worst episode of the series but mostly just because of the horrible maggie stuff.

I have a friend that absolutely loves this show. I don't know why, considering his all-time favorite show is Deadwood. After almost every episode, he posts how much he loves the show, and I finally had to ask him why. He said this:

Like The Smothers Brothers and All In The Family, important representation, but it's a comedy TV show!

I think that is an interesting way to view the show. I never saw it as a comedy. And it's pretty bad as a drama. It might actually seem better as a comedy that has some bad drama.

Regardless, I didn't go much further in the discussion. I could go on for days to try and prove my point, but based on his POV, we're watching two completely different shows.
