That was a good game.

Second place was obviously cheatcoding with two $800 DD clues in DJ. Plus he went after it both times.

Guy from Wheezer really faced some tough competition during his short reign. He's not even going to make the Tournament of Champions.

If you ever need a more intense place to discuss Jeopardy online, I found it:

http://www.jboard.tv/jboard/phpBB3/v....php?f=1&t=294

I was poking around because I know Joon Pahk, last night's winner. He posted in the thread.

Thanks, looks like the new place for Jeopardy discussions after the Sony message board got hacked and Sony still hasn't gotten it back up in at least six months.

Pretty sick true daily double with $16k by Joon tonight. Math and sports categories are the only ones where I would probably true daily double every time no matter what the score is.

Loved that double. Really a trivially easy category if your brain works that way, and clearly it does for him.

Was rooting for him to double FJ as well for the record but obviously that's pretty psycho.

He did ridiculously miss one of the early clues lol. Once you buzz in you don't have to respond that quickly. He was over-confident in his math skills.

Wow, can't recall that ever happening before where they make a scoring change after the commercial break entering final jeopardy that changes the leader. Tough loss for Katie. Then they give such an easy FJ clue that she has no chance for the guy to miss it. Joon sure was lucky. Almost went out before locking up the ToC just like Weezer.

Joon gets beat in DJ again but pulls it out. He locked up ToC but isn't looking too impressive anymore.

daily double in that plus 8 question and the "a" in math one about cone height are dumb categories to have daily doubles in.

fat guy was getting mad today about being crushed in buzzer speed

They definitely are daily doubles that allow the players who hit them to truly take advantage of them provided they are halfway competent in the category, which Joon was. Wasn't a tough category at all, there are only so many common "a" math terms. At least he's a champion who knows how to wager aggressively.

Do you think ALex really doesn't understand betting strategy or his just being coy? For instance last night Joon had it locked up, so the player in 2nd bet enough to cover the player in 3rd if 3rd got it right, very standard, absolutely the right bet. The question was super easy and every one got it right, when the bet of the player in 2nd was revealed Alex did one of his "Interesting bet." comments.

Alex is a simpleton wrt betting strategy obv. seems dumbfounded when someone makes a very large (but correct) wager and also condescending when somebody wagers small on a daily double because they probably don't like the category at all.

any idea what happened tonight on jeopardy? i didn't see it but a friend was telling me that 2 people tied for 1st but somehow the guy in last place with $2 was designated the winner? i told her this made no sense, but she insists.. what happened?

Going into FJ (roughly, not exact numbers)

Champ: 6400
Challenger 1: 6000
Challenger 2: 7600

I didn't pay too close amount to the wagers but it was a triple stumper where Challenger 1 was left with $2, and Champ and Challenger 2 both wagered amounts that ended up tying them with each other at $1599. So they both advance to another day, and Challenger 1's screen lit up with "$2000" which wasn't his score, but the prize money he won for being the first runner up. Which is probably what confused your friend.

I'm watching it right now, not at fj yet (omg realtime posting), but wtf these people all suck. econ grad student missing private enterprise, no one knowing the whigs... lol. lot of crickets tonight.

free joon pahk

edit: lol at winners winning less than the guy. so much fail this show.

never seen anything like tonight. but for once all three contestants made me feel really really smart. Liked challenger #1's daily double in DJ, too bad he got stumped on that and the FJ, at least he was aggressive. Hated Challenger #2's teeth/jawline.

I searched the forums to bump this thread re: last night's episode but I see it's already been bumped. Here is what happened:
P1: 7600
P2: 6800
P3: 6000

So all are 800 apart. P1 bet 6001 to cover P2. P2 bet 5201 to cover P3 and to tie P1 in event of a triple stumper. P3 bet 5998. J-archive says that P3's optimal bet is 6000. I don't understand why. In a game like this where it's obvious that P1 is betting 6001 and P2 has to bet a large amount as well to cover a potential 6000 from P3 for second place, what does P3 have to gain by betting 6000?
