Admittedly, I was surprised when I first learned the FJ solve rate was only 50%. Personally, I would have bet the max as well and then suggested to Alex just to save everybody's time and give me the money. But again, categories are extremely subjective.

Seasons 26-29, 1st and 2nd were both 53%, 3rd 49%

So absent any other info we should max out in a lock game from 1st. Still if its French literature I'm going $0.

Another 2nd place that can't recognize the 2/3 scenario (8200 vs 12000 with a distant 3rd at 2600). 1st is wagering 4401>90% of the time. 2nd should wager $0. Never winning on right/right with the new no tie rule.

Bet 0 or bet max binary people don't get risk tolerance? Don't think someone making 60k/yr should be betting 5k on a 53/47 coinflip. I think Arthur talked about it a bit (since his locks were a bit larger a couple times)

Eh, it's not like they have to think long term and use Kelly.

I was so happy that the guy in third place on yesterday's show went DD hunting towards the end of the round, but then he had to ruin it by only betting 5k instead of the full 7k. You have approximately a zero percent chance of winning if you drop down to 2k, come on man.

...but a slightly better chance than if you have $0, right? I'd at least like to play Final Jeopardy and give one of the other two a chance to hand me the game with terrible wagering. Maybe bet $6,500.

I know I'm hostile and intolerant, but the current champion tilts the hell out of me, starting with the double fist pump celebration after winning on Day 1.

Then in his second game, he throws out a "yesss" after correctly answering some random Double Jeopardy clue, like he's Napoleon Dynamite at the milk-tasting competition.

I'm hoping someone can knock off Jose tonight.

Also, what a bad beat that he had the right idea but missed it by a letter. Ouch.

He was sitting in the audience the game before and saw Jose wager +1 dollar, so pretty much a zero percent chance of him making some absurd all in wager. But, there's potentially a huge difference between 5k and 7k if you get it right. There was less than a minute on the board, which turned out to be enough time for two questions. If he chose both 2k questions still on the board and got them both, he would have had the lead going into FJ had he wagered 7k. If he wagered 5k (or 6.5k for that matter), he wouldn't have. Even if he only managed to get one of the two remaining questions, that would would have been enough to win on a triple stumper, assuming third place didn't get the other one. With a successful 5k wager, it wouldn't have been, he would have needed to get both questions correct since 14100 was the score needed to cover 9400 without dropping below it on a miss. You just never know when that extra 2k left behind might be the difference between winning and losing, and when it doesn't do you much good to save it, you have to bet it.

+1 my wife and I watched the double fist pump in slow motion forward and backward and were dying laughing.

Tonight's FJ would've really tilted me. I immediately knew it was Fear and Loathing but had no idea who wrote it.

Can you elaborate?

3/2/15

It's obviously subjective, as we all have different experiences with pop culture, but I thought the Final Jeopardy was the easiest one in recent memory...even for those of us who haven't read the book. When Alex read that quote, I heard it in Johnny Depp's voice.

I guess it's possible, as someone has alluded to, that you could remember the book/movie without remembering the author.

It would have pretty funny if someone remembered a piece of the movie and answered Raoul Duke.

And I could imagine some dum-dum possibly guessing a Beat novel from the quote, but they even gave the year it was published to eliminate those.

I would've responded "who is the guy who wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Not only is it technically correct but it's also unambiguous. Yet I would be ruled incorrect

That was an amazing game, albeit a pretty dumb wager from the guy who won.

The FJ wager? He has to cover 3rd, but by doing so he can't win on a triple stumper. Therefore might as well bet it all.

Awful FJ clue. Really just came down to luck. Guessing Asian guy started at the top of the alphabet. I started with the smaller state names and never got to it.
