man that was a lot tougher.
nice breath of fresh air to have competent contestants.

couldn't believe he missed Conrad, but he was clearly confused.

should be a great tournament.

It was fun to watch to them squirm.

Ben was great. Without the buzzer mastery, we got to see his patience. Love watching him play.

finally got DVR so today's ep was my first jeopardy in 3 months

got absolutely destroyed. 2 questions right in first round. got the FJ wrong (was a bit disappointed actually. seemed easy but didn't even come close)

I got the FJ, but man, what a ****ty question, especially for a ToC. These are the best of the best and you're forcing them to play a guessing game on the highest leverage clue of the game, just awful. Have not been impressed with the writers this season.

Reading the jboard thread about Monday's game, it's tilting to see people who are that smart and inquisitive be proud of being ignorant about wagering.

Tonight's game was a bit disappointing. Hopefully we get a bit more entertainment before the Arthur-Julia showdown.

And also have the majority of posters there agree vehemently that leaving $1600 on the table is a smart move!

so given the structure of this tourney (wrt winner advance n then wildcard for high scores among non winners)

say going into FJ in these prelim rounds the scores are like 22K, 21K, 1K.

what are the optimal wagers for 1st n 2nd?

I don't post on jboard anymore. Cliffs?

The aggressive all or $1 thing we may see in FJ could see very small amounts as a wild card or two.

$0 for the leader, and either $0 or $1001 for 2nd. Almost 100% of the time $20k advances.

Contestants are always trying to guess what the cutoff will be, but that's a fruitless exercise, way too many variables. Therefore you more or less play to win the game unless you can reach at least $20k.

And this is what the morons at jboard don't understand, you just can't guess at this stuff. So you gotta play to win and/or max your total to give yourself the absolute best chance to advance without guesswork.

How bad is it for the person in 2nd to wager $0?

I'd be perfectly fine with it, just thought $1001 would be slightly higher EV. Also category dependent.

what happens if there is a tie for 1st in the prelim round?

Tiebreaker question is how it's always been in tourneys.

LoL. She'd rather be that contestant who missed out on the wildcard because she didn't wager enough. I sure hope she is, both for justice and so I don't have to look at her again.
Remember that one guy on the last TOC who lost in the first round with $0? No? Yeah, me either.

Plus, WTF is the difference between finishing with $0 and finishing with $1.00 less than you need to make the semis.

It's binary - either you make the semis or you don't.

Someone should have asked her on the jboard why she just didn't leave $1 behind and not $1,600 if she was so worried about going out with $0. Probably a lost cause since she said she was going to bet less and adjusted it higher.

Don't forget to watch the slaughter tonight. I predict Julia will have over a 5 to 1 money advantage going into FJ.

If anyone is interested, I made my own version of Roger Craig's training site. Here's the link, it's more or less the exact same thing as what he outlined in this youtube video. I've got about 50% of the clues mapped out so far, hope to get that up to 75% or more in the near future, let me know what you think.

I am interested.

Let me fix this sobriety and I'll report back.

Well, that about confirms everything people were saying last Spring. Majorly tilting wagers today, especially from Julia.

Looks fantastic, I'll definitely be making use of it over the next few months. One thing I've noticed already is that the Skip button causes an error.
