Diablo has it right. Poorly worded clue.

That question was something like After Washington and FDR, this president fittingly named the third most justices to the Supreme Court. The fittingly tipped off that the correct response was Taft, as he later became a Supreme Court Justice himself. Guy crossed off Taft and put FDR.

Dex, that's not to what he was referring. There was a game last week in which the woman had 400 more than the guy with two clues remaining and time running out and bet 500. I believe it ended up being the final clue of the round and she missed it. But it actually ended up helping her as they both missed FJ and she won because he had to bet to cover her.

i agree it was poorly worded, so maybe they figured that due to them writing a poorly worded clue they would give extra leeway in the correct response.

however the clue read:

"this NFL team's logo is the only one that is a plant"

i still can't see how any reasonable person would think they were asking for the name of the plant/logo.

the clue starts THIS NFL TEAM'S LOGO.

dunno, when i first read the clue i instantly thought SAINTS.
my fiance instantly said "the saints"

and she loves flowers/plants way more than football.

if someone hadn't written the name of the plant and had it accepted i don't think anyone is talking about how poorly worded the clue was.

but i do agree that a FJ clue shouldn't have any ambiguity and i can understand why they gave it to her.

Unless there was some editing involved, it seems like they had already decided to take either the team or the logo as Alex appeared to accept it immediately. No problem with that based on the wording.

Certainly can't argue that she knew the flower and didnt know the team (possible but highly unlikely).

I had to take a mental tour of teams/logos. Thankfully I'm an NFC guy and I live in Philly and use to live in the midwest, so I knew those weren't correct and started with the NFC South so it didnt take more than a couple of seconds.

Champ blew it on a couple of not so tough DD questions. Middle guys $200 wager on the first round's DD told me he wasn't going to win.

This is bad rationale.

1, it's a bottom row clue
2, you don't get to see the clue before wagering, so how does one know if it's easy?
3, on DD's like this you've got 2 options, if confident go big/all, if not go the minimum. If he's not confident, he did good. And since it's a bottom row clue, perfectly understandable. Much better than the idiots who just pick $2k out of thin air and have zero reason behind it.

I'll tell you right now, if I'm every on and don't feel comfortable early in the game, I'll wager $5 on a DD and know it's the absolute right decision.

it was in the single jeopardy round.
clues are generally easy, even on the bottom row.
and even if u get it wrong you have all of DJ to recover.

unless you really don't know the category (like if I found it in ballet) $200 is a bad wager.
and it didn't seem like a particularly challenging subject for him.

also how come ppl always wager even amounts?
if ur gonna wager 2K why not do 2037 or something like that?
seems like forcing other contestants to do slightly tougher mental calculations would be +EV.

I'd be wagering like 4,423 etc on every DD.

I've always stated I'd do this in a heartbeat, it's a solid strategy.

Rbk,

You sure it'd be an advantage to you to make the math calculations harder?

it would be making the calculations harder for my opponents LDO.

I see this all the time & if these folks are good enough to get on the show - THEY SHOULD KNOW A LITTLE BASIC STRATEGY!

After the first daily double is found in Double Jeopardy - the player in control or whatever player gets control in the future should not click on any amount in the category where the 1st Daily Double was found - they are NEVER both in the same category and its much better for you to hit the 2nd one instead of your opponents.

And I've never seen one in the smallest dollar amount - so u don't pick those either. And even if it has happened....its got to be incredibly rare.

ANYBODY ever seen a daily double behind the lowest clue amout in single or double Jep?

14 people fighting for 2 spots in the finals. Julia essentially has a bye to the finals the same way Ken and Brad had one in the tournament of the decades. I'd like to see Chu go out early.

I definitely wouldn't. If anything just for pacing alone.

Clues sure did take the "mastery of the buzzer" out of this round.

LOL at not getting Conrad on that DJ DD. Someone didn't take AP English Lit in the 2000s.

I like how the lady in middle left $1,600 behind for no reason. Hope that costs her a wildcard bid. It's all or nothing in that position.

Just rewatched it and I wonder if he didn't understand the category. He guessed Kubrick who didn't write books.

A. He was prepared for A Clockwork Orange to be in the mix (which it was) and blanked because

B. Didn't know it was Francis and just guessed thinking you're supposed to guess the director who made the book into the movie. The category was "They changed my book into a movie" so he misinterpreted they were looking for "my", not the "they".

Pretty sure he did get Burgess on Clockwork once he figured it out.

Could be generational on my part but Stanley and Francis remind me of the other so if I were guessing what I know is wrong, may just go with Spike Lee or someone else out of that generation like Clint Eastwood.

That said, B is probably true and he was thinking of Full Metal Jacket.

I think he was probably confusing the two movies and thought "wtf that was a kubrick creation not based on a book.. might as well guess him!" and then trebek said conrad and he immediately did a mental DOH! and realized his mistake of confusing the two movies. I don't think he was confused at all about the category.

This is what she posted on jboard: "I refused to be that contestant who failed out of the Tournament of Champions with no money. It wasn't happening. My mental estimate of the cut line was in the low five figures, which gave me a little room to work with. If it makes you feel better, I actually changed my wager to nudge it upwards. I also wasn't confident in the category, and again, I refused to be that contestant who failed out of the Tournament of Champions with no money."

LoL. She'd rather be that contestant who missed out on the wildcard because she didn't wager enough. I sure hope she is, both for justice and so I don't have to look at her again.
