So the offer the tie bet was 4400, think she just accidently added 100 instead of subtracting 100??? Nice to see Alex call it out, otherwise she probably wouldnt have known she screwed. Ignorance is bliss.

Lets not forget the other woman betting 1000 out of 6000+ on the DD when she was behind by a ton.

Fully rooting for a Clavin loss for the champ to exit eventually (wont be all-in, but will be all time lolz).

I googled it and got the following:

http://www.therichest.com/celebnetwo...bek-net-worth/

http://www.celebritynetworth.com/ric...bek-net-worth/

I make no warrants as to the veracity other than to suggest that that amount is nowhere near being out of line with respect to the insane amount of money flying around the entertainment industry.

Kurn,

Yeah, those types of sites are often pretty worthless in terms of accurate numbers.

But $10M is certainly possible, though I suspect that's a little on the high side based on comps.

4 tourneys at $265,000/per=$1.06MM (covers the various tournaments and such).
(15 people, 6 get 5K, 6 get 10K, 1st 2nd, 3rd get $175K total?)

So on the order of $5MM in prize money, ballpark. $6MM in the years they do a big payout tourney.

Say 45 weeks, that's $4.5M

Alex's reported comp is $10M per year.

I guess I vastly underestimated Trebek's salary, and also overestimated the annual prize payouts. I figured at roughly 20k a day, plus the random big tournaments they have with million dollar first prizes, the prize money would greatly overtake Trebek's salary.

10 million is absurd. I would have thought 1 million was the absolute maximum. What the hell is so hard about reading clues for 1/2 hour a day and trying to be funny?

I think most people have no clue how much money there is in big-time TV. In the late 90s, the 4 leads in Seinfeld were supposedly each making between $1M and $2M per episode.

To me, $10M in that industry isn't even close to being near the top. Leno's comp was reputed to be in excess of $25M annually at the end, and back in the early 90's, Letterman's was supposed to be $7M.

Is it possible these numbers are inflated by agents, etc. Sure. But by an order of magnitude. No.

Kvit,

FYI judge Judy makes like $50M per year!

Edit: you're really going to freak out when you find out how much Ryan seacrest gets paid for hosting stuff!

Kurn,

I think it's pretty commonly known that actors and celebrities make ****loads of money.

Trebek has value and leverage, too.

How much would you pay for him to host your brand-new competing TV quiz show? It gives instant credibility and giant publicity. If the show catches on, you're printing money for decades. Decades.

Apparently, not to Kvit. But your point about Seacrest is spot on. If Trebek actually makes $10M, it's not even in the ballpark of highest paid.

Clueless or not, you haven't justified how reading clues for 1/2 hour a day is worth anywhere close to 10 million. Its a ****ing joke, and it makes Trebek feel way more important than he really is.

I'd like to thank you for taking a break from carving that anarchy symbol into your desk to share such a thoughtful, reasoned opinion.

Tonight's episode made me laugh (literally) out loud to myself.

A few of the responses to clues were just ******ed. (Texas Hold'em? 1000 leagues under the sea? Red dwarf, in a "super" category?)

Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about FJ wagers...

A) 16,400 B) 14,000 C) 2,200 (irrelevant)

I don't know if B got flustered by the difficult arithmetic or is simply clueless, but she has to realize that the minimum A is ending with is 4,800. Therefore anything between 0 and 9200 is an acceptable FJ wager. WTF kind of bet is 9,599? Is this an oversight or just a random bet?

(A can't be excused either, for betting an extra 100. It *should* serve to bite her in the ass with infinitely more damage than a lousy $100 could benefit her.)

Oh yeah, and those interviews are just the ****ing worst. Dude's story about meeting his wife made me cringe and turn away from the TV. It was painful. Why the hell do we need those interviews anyway? So Alex can interrupt the contestants and make some pathetic attempt at a funny remark? They could probably fit another category or 2 in the time they waste with that bull****.

How dare you. I'd give her a smooch.

Considering she went to Wellesley and we were probably at the same parties ten years ago, I'm surprised it didn't happen.

Spoiler:
OK "Queen City in Ohio" and first two guesses are Columbus and Cleveland. 3rd chick doesnt even ring in.

Both DD underbet by massively trailing players in DJ.

Can't wait for what horror happens in FJ.

Yes brutal. I had watched on DVR and FF thru to FJ and missed that there was a correction. I went nearly ballistic at the small 2nd place bet before realizing what had happened. She needs to call that teen tournament kid and commiserate on spelling/pronounciation.

So much fail this week.
