Do you guys really remember all these random women on this show? I kinda remember the one chick at the party or whatever but for the most part its all fell out of my head by the time the next episode aired. Whatever Barney does though is memorable ldo.

Bays and Thomas talked about the show and how it will be much better than last year.

Rachel Bilson (Cindy) is going to be back on the season premiere, which will supposedly have the biggest tease of the series so far. This really isn't a spoiler as much as it is a preview of the episode, but I'll tag it anyway since I know how touchy people can be about this stuff:

Spoiler:
"We're going to glimpse the day that Ted meets the mother, and you're going to have an enormous indication of where [it happens]," Thomas says. "And yet new questions are going to be raised by the fact of knowing where. That's very vague, but it's about as specific as we can be."

That sounds like good news. I really hope they introduce the Mother this season.

I love me some Alyson. She looks even better now that shes had her kid.

Let's be honest though, it's not so much having a kid as it is having a boob job.. Right?

Meh, they can talk about a rebound all they want in interview, but I'm not optimistic.

It's very rare that a show has a bad season 4 years in and then recovers.

It's a good sign that they at least realize there were serious issues with last season. The only problem is, fixing the narrative arcs of the show doesn't automatically make the jokes any funnier, and that was just as big a problem.

Yea, but many many shows admit slumps yet recovery doesn't follow (see for instance Heroes, where the creators spent years admitting mistakes and promising recovery that never came).

Yeah, I wasn't completely disagreeing with you or anything. The episodic thing is an easily understandable issue that they should be able to fix. The decline in joke quality is tough to remedy even if they recognize it.

I can only think of one show where I think they had a very solid season after two boring/mediocre seasons: Scrubs (season 8 was very good again imo)

I don't have much faith in this being close to how good it was in the first couple of years..

I'm really hoping they pull through and make it better, but I'm going to keep watching anyways even if they don't. At least we have Rules of Engagement to look forward to though!

Well, it could go either way, but that lengthy interview makes me think it's close to 50/50ish than 90/10 against.

Also I feel like this show, not matter how bad it gets, will always have the potential for at least one more really good arc - finding out who the mother is. Even if they drag out another 3 awful seasons, I feel like it shouldn't be that hard for them to create a really good conclusion to the series. Hopefully we get one or two more good seasons which smoothly transitions into a good ending, but I reserve such foolish optimism solely for AMC and HBO programs.

This is my thought as well. I figure they have a season of them dating, engagement time and even some time after their married. Thats like up to 8 seasons. Which is long for shows.

the show is called how i met your mother

the premise is this: Ted is telling the kids how he met the mother.

the show is going to end not long after Ted meets the mom.

Don't take it

so literally.

There have been plenty

of episodes

that had nothing to do with

how Ted met the mother.

If there were post-mother-meeting episodes

about how they started dating

I don't think anyone would object, nor

would the show suffer.

I think there will be some episodes with the mother, but I also think that the season we meet the mother is the last season of the show.

Similar to that 70's show, when the 70's end, the show ends

The last season will be him meeting the mother, telling the kids about their first dates and stuff and the last ep is their wedding and if i was the writer it would be intercut with future Ted and Kids (and friends) at her funeral showing the whole point of the stories was the three of them reliving the good times and truly letting go.

right, from a storytelling point of view, this makes the most sense. I mean, who spends hours and hours telling their kids how they met their mother. The reason he's doing it is because the mom is dead.

But since it's a tv show, they could do anything they wanted

They could write a truly epic finale when it is cut together well so you dont even realise there is two events (funeral and wedding) going on until the last couple of scenes with Ted standing at the alter and then delivering a Eulogy back to back; and it is only in the last scene you realise the stories were told in the weeks after the funeral as future Ted comes to terms with losing the woman he spent so long looking for, where they walk away from the grave side a month after she is buried and the final line is something like "kids, how would you like to know how the two of us met?".

It wont because the writers are dumb and it going to end up ridiculously cliche and predictable. It was funny seeing that Jason Segel had a similar opinion on how to end the show though.

yea they could do soo much with it. they could break them up, get them back together, lmake some fights, whatever, it could take forever. i just think its unfair that after 5 seasons we still havent seen a glimpse of the mother.

that would be lame. how about their dating period? getting engaged? the marriage? the kids? needs more than one season imo
