seriously, i love mother, a lot, but right now, starting season five, it's not even in the same ballpark as friends or frasier. maybe someday it will, but not now.
really, the only person on the cast that can act with the Friends cast is NPH.
I think Chandler and Anniston are at the HIMYM cast level, but le blanc, phoebe, ross and his sister are way better than everyone but nph.
I think the thing friends has, and even shows like 2 1/2 men have, they are consistently funny week in and week out.
the same cannot be said for mother. there were some brutal stretches in season 3
The only thing that I will agree w/ is that season 3 is possibly the weakest season of HIMYM, and I still think it was much better than friends--not a single unwatchable episode. Obv I'm biased as I think friends was overrated, and just a decent sitcom. But how can you say that the acting isn't on par? Jason Segel can easily match any of the characters from Friends. Le Blanc was fairly sucky imo on the show.
I feel like HIMYM has more of a realistic feeling behind it. If my friends were as lame as the Friends cast in many episodes, I'd ditch them for more interesting people. I just didn't really buy their friend dynamic, or in general how kosher everything seemed. Friends just seemed like a more grown up version of Full House half the time.
HIMYM otoh has characters who I align more w/ personality-wise. I'd say Robin is a better character than Phoebe (though I think there is argument that Phoebe was the better actress). NPH>all of friends cast. Alyson Hannigan is the character who I think has the hardest time holding here own individually on HIMYM, but she still adds a great dynamic to the show and is a great actress for a sitcom.
In terms of longevity I think HIMYM can surpass friends easily. The premise of the show is more genius and allows a lot of room for solid continuity. W/ Friends, after I understand that they are a tight-nit group of 'friends', I get bored w/ it. Chandler tools away half the episodes, and none of the characters match really anyone I know (maybe Monica, and I know of Ross types, but they are lame).
As for Frasier, I will grant that it is one of the best written sitcoms. I was always a huge Cheers/Frasier fan, but I still find the characters on HIMYM more realistic than I do Frasier. The only character who I can't completely identify w/ on HIMYM is NPH, only because no one is that awesome. The acting was def better on Frasier though.
