Probably a result of insanely low expectations but I actually kinda liked this. I smiled a few times and never really got enraged which is a huge win for this show now. At least they got right to advancing the robin/barney stuff and the storage locker was kinda sweet in a stupid sitcommy way. 52 seconds bit was clever and well delivered by nph. The Marshall/Lily subplot was one of the worst I can remember, just cringe inducing. German guy seemed way too broad for the payoff but the one laugh I had was when he told ted he was maddeningly inconsistent. Ending song was great as others have said.

I think it is clear the mother reveal won't be until the season finale which is maddening but w/e in for a penny in for a pound.

Why does this show even go on anymore? Marshall used to be a great supporting character. Now they have rendered him and Lily completely useless. Ted is a lame ass, and the only decent storyline they have had going for them for the past 3 years is Robin-Barney--which is a lamer storyline than any on the weekly basis when Barney was just single. Lets hope they just decide enough is enough and end this.

I hope they introduce the mother without 8 episodes, so that they have enough left to actually see their relationship evolve & all.

Episode was worse than average. The Funeral has to be one of the most used song in series, seriously. Never gets old though, great song.

The 52secs were great and that's it pretty much. I'm tired of them making a whole episodes about someone telling Ted that he has to find his perfect love somehow somewhere. We knoooowwwwwwwww, bring the funny or the mother.

I liked the Lily Marshall bit for the first few times, the 1000 times after that it sucked bad though. 52 sec bit was good too, and Robin looked ridiculously hot when she walked into the garage. Other than that, crap. Though the show has deff been way worse than this. But for a season opener this was terrible.

I'm in for the hate as much as anyone, but my goodness the car alarm bit was so much worse than anything in this episode.

That song seems very overplayed as of late, but rightly so I guess so not sure what I'm complaining about there. Good song.

Other than that a huge box of meh. No way mother reveal happens within the next couple episodes, we're back to September 2012 next episode. These flashforwards have been standard for the season premieres and endings the last couple years, nothing new there.

The car alarm bit was bad but it was during a time when this show was great. Quick eyeroll and it was done.

Barney's 52 second recitation of the entire series was both very funny and a painful reminder of how much crap they've shoveled at us.

I know. I'm pretty sure that the creators, writers, and cast all know exactly what it's turned into. And there's nothing they can do.

Not standing under the roof when it's raining that hard seems pretty dumb, even with an umbrella. Especially when you're carrying a guitar. Ted's wife is dumb.

I thought the mother was a bass player
not that she couldn't also play guitar but they made specific reference to her bass playing a couple of times in the past. seems odd that they wouldn't reference it now.

She had a bass guitar in Girls versus Suits.

It could still well be a bass. It's not like a cabbie is going to be that specific in telling someone to grab something

that's irl. this show has a history of hitting us over the head repeatedly with stuff like this. they also have a history of throwing continuity out the window, so meh.

They've also been very consistent on Ted being a sucker for bassists. It technically it is a bass guitar. I'm still going with her actually having a bass in the case

For prop purposes and the ease of the "actress" giving her a smaller case makes some sense. Basses can be pretty damn heavy.

Hoping this is the last season. I would think that the mother reveal will be during one of the sweeps times if I had to guess which narrows down the episodes that it could happen in.

She plays an electric bass, not a double bass. Electric basses are almost always in a guitar-like case

They're quite a bit longer then guitar cases, but designed the same.

Yeah, seriously, wtf are ppl even talking about here? A bass guitar is virtually identical to a six string when in a case and I am only hedging my bets slightly not going for literally identical in case the neck is slightly longer or something only an experienced musician would notice.
