One of the weakest episodes for me in recent memory, but still laughed at parts, especially when Brad brought in his ex and the climax of the MPG storyline.

I have come to the following conclusions to stop this show from sucking like it has done lately:

1) Penny must die.

2) Penny's annoying boyfriend must die.

3) They need to stop overdoing things and the terrible slapstick stuff. This show is always great when it's more low-key and terrible when they overact.

Episode was meh, most annoying part is how predictable it's especially the stuff with Jane and Brad.

I'm surprised you guys didn't like this one that much. This was a version of Penny that didn't bother me that much. The rest of the stuff felt pretty true to the characters for the part, at least in that I picture Dave, Alex and Max were having fun with the situation and not actually believing in what they were doing. That's not the case, but looking at it like that made the plot work well for me.

Very nice Keyser Soze ending, loved this episode.

The modern family spoof and HE spoof has me geeking out.

The "I'm not as dumb as I am" tag at the end was so great, as was the episode in general. When Alex shot up from the couch, I almost choked on my water.

Top 5 episode for me, though not sure where they're going with the Penny getting married storyline

Had the 2nd episode happened earlier in the show, I would've really not liked it. But since I trust the show, it was fine. Could've done without a pretty good amount of it. Lot of giggles, then of course Brad's speech to win back Max was hysterical, but not as good of an ep as the show is capable of.

First ep was one of the best ones yet

But I really liked a ton of jokes in the 2nd one too
Dave getting left at the altar... again. Never gets old to me

No it wasn't, it was terrible. She made that joke when she and Dave were plotting their popcorn prank and I lol'd. I don't know why they had to repeat the same joke again at the end, that ruined it for me.

Am I the only one who was left with a bad taste in my mouth (phrasing!) by Max's behavior in the opening scene? Someone who would dump his friends so quickly after winning the lottery is a ****ty person (and not in the funny way like when Penny makes stupid, elaborate excuses for not hanging out with people), but this is especially bad coming from Max, who has basically been living on Brad and Jane's charity (she said recently he owes them $12,000 and that he ruined their 401k!) That one crossed the line for me into "Wait, why are these people friends with Max, exactly?"

I dunno, HE seems to want to have both sides of the "these people suck and are funny to laugh at / we care about these people enough to root for them" coin, and there have been a few times this season where their attempts at the former have invalidated the latter.

Seemed in character to me.

nath,
I think they have lost the thread with Max and have made his character too mean-spirited. However in this case i think an outsized crazy response like that generates tons of laughs in that scene and sets the tone for the prank war that follows.

That's the weird thing-- it was in character, but the whole thing felt off to me, like they just piled on too much of Max being a dick. I like him better when he's merely thoughtless as opposed to aggressively hostile.

Yeah, I can't see another way to do it, but it makes me think something about the premise was flawed. They did something similar with season 2's "The Code War", but they gave Max some justification for his behavior. (It was an immature one, but at least he's feeling hurt, not like he just actively hates these people.)

Just a note for Happy Endings fans -- I watched the Adam Sandler movie That's My Boy on an airplane the other day, and it was surprisingly funny. It's stupid and vulgar and sexist and pointless, but I laughed a lot.

Anyway, it was written by David Caspe, the showrunner/creator/head writer of Happy Endings. By the end of the film, that made sense to me in a weird way. He just won the Razzie for Worst Screenplay, too. Haters IMO.

Did anyone else watch the two episodes from the other day?

I forgot it was coming back after almost forgetting how good it was, though I never forgot how hot Elisha is.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it had just been quietly put to death. It's still the only show that makes me laugh out loud on a regular basis. I realllly hope that another network picks it up if ABC won't.
