Game night was a huge success tr to follow. Holy **** the election game was one of the most amazing feats of human psychology I've ever seen. Also, the greatest demo fest of the lion in food chain I've ever seen

Sorry - my computer got broken (at the game actually lol) so I'm trying to fix/get the stuff off of it to enhance it. It'll probably come in installments cause each game was so different and interesting.

Sounds like we need a bracket/poll to determine the consensus HOAT Genius contestant (or we can all just agree it's Jaekyung)

Pretty sure there was a thread like that for the Survivor ladies a few years ago.

I've watched this show and my belief is that it won't be a long-running show

Rules 1

Rules 2

3/2/1 Rules

(documents didn't load great - don't have time to fix atm)

To explain the games, I’d embedded a Bandage-man-esque audio explanation of the overall game in OpenOffice PowerPoint (or whatever it’s called) and just clicked slides to prompt it. Essentially I got the rules for both the overall and relevant game from the show and tweaked them for my use, grammar and ease of explanation, and then fed them into a text-to-speech software – a British guy to sound more formal. Then I posted a set of rules on the wall so people could reference them. The rules of Wile – the name of the game – did not allow for elimination, but attempted to punish by Strikes. This will get covered later.

Pictures during the game were non-existent, as I just had no time. I will attempt to add in pictures and files of stuff I used to hopefully enhance the TR.
The first game was 3/2/1. The game rules were exactly as the episode played, as there ended up being 13 players participate for the day. I’d “read” out the rules, and posted them on the wall. Everyone kinda looked at me like wtf who is this British guy and how did you get him to narrate this? They had 15 minutes to strategize and ask questions of the overall day and this particular game and then got started.

The game is pretty self-explanatory, so there wasn’t much for questions. Top score(s) got Immunity Tokens – which either prevented or took away Strikes - while bottom score(s) got Strikes – which took away all Cylons (Garnets for this game) accumulated to that point, plus gained them a disadvantage if it was still around for the Elimination (6th) Game. Additionally, any individual with over 3 points got Cylons worth double the points gained over 3. I’d gotten cards 1-3 printed from overseas with the game logo on the back, and each person was presented a case with their cards inside. It was pretty cool actually. All dead cards went into this black and white die box that was also cool.

The first groups were pretty much split into 4 factions – a group of 5 that were familiar with each other from Vegas, 2 couples that were friends and 2 individual couples that played heads-up against each other. So the individual couples pretty much played straight-up, with one couple just getting rid of their cards randomly and the other making sure they got 5 and 4 points each. The 2 friend couples split into two girls and two guys – with the set of girls exchanging cards so one got 9 points and the other got 0. The two guys waited to play their cards. The group of 5 tried to play their cards out 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, … , all between each other to get equal points. This worked until they had 15 3s left. They intended on “playing” other people with only their 3s, much like the game worked on TV. However, at this point the only people with cards left were the group of 5 with 3 3s each and the two guys with all their cards left.

The group of 5, realizing they can’t get any more points from anyone, just started playing 3s against each other to get rid of cards. Although one of the 5 had 3 cards left, they still didn’t realize that they have an additional card they won’t be able to get rid of. The two guys realize that they need more cards to get to their intended target of 10 points (to screw the girls), so they ask the other guy for his 3s. He obliges with two of them. They then play out their cards and realize that they have too many 3s and won’t be able to get to 10 the way they played it out. So they give the guy a card, asking if he’ll trade for a 2 (that they don’t know he doesn’t have). He says sure after taking the card, but doesn’t give them a card back. So now he has 2 cards and the two-guy team has one. Everyone loses their mind laughing and freaking out, because now they’re the ones with the single leftover card. Much arguing ensues, and the single guy, realizing at this time that getting last isn’t the end of the world – a rule that will be changed in future competitions – decides that the long-term is more important than this particular game and plays one of his cards against the team, thereby keeping the final card for himself and scoring 0.

So, for final scores, you had 2 people with 9, 1 with 5, 1 with 4, and 3 with 0 – with everyone else between 3-1. The teams that went 9-0 were all happy with themselves, cause they got some Cylons and avoided the Strike (they just gave their Immunity to the partner who got the Strike) – they just didn’t realize they could have had their cake and ate it too, getting Immunity without the Strikes. Therefore, the game ended with only the single guy getting a Strike.

Mod note: This game was easily the least entertaining game to watch and participate in. Unfortunately, much like the actual game, I needed to be able to introduce the entire game and concept with a simple, not-too-cutthroat game to start. Obviously the game will not be played again within my rotation. However, when watching, it was really interesting to see how the game pretty much went the exact same way as the televised one – even including the last-minute attempt to take the sole victory. This will be something that continues throughout the day.

Great stuff. Really enjoyed reading that. Thanks for posting!!

In the 3rd link, it says that players can play against a random dealer card if they choose - seems like an interesting twist - I'm guessing you chose to nix that rule variation in the interest of keeping the first game simple?

The game was intended to be for 12 people - last minute someone had to ditch and I had to add 2 people so the dealer cards went to the extra player (to ensure an odd number of cards)

I of course have absolutely no insight into how SK's television ratings & advertising work, but I've read (in a few places) that s4's ratings vastly exceeded expectations. I'd say there's still hope for s5, maybe just give it a few years - now's a great time to rewatch the series!

Game 2 Rules

The second game we played was The Election Game. The rules of the game were similar – the main difference was, instead of election token chips, the election tokens were given out via promissory notes. They were only valid if: a. the candidate won; and b. the note was written by the candidate in the color of that particular candidate. Everything else in the game was the same – Strikes were given to both the losing candidate and the one with the most losing candidate’s tokens, while Immunity Tokens were given to the victor and the one with the most winning candidate’s tokens. Cylons are given out at the rate of 2 per winning candidate election token. This will come up later.

So the rules are read out and everyone had 10 minutes to discuss before the 5 minute running period. After the slight animosity in the first game, the 8 non-Vegas people banded together while the 5 Vegas people were on the outside. Again, due to the structure I’d created, there wasn’t enough of an incentive to run – so the 8 person team had one of the team couple’s girls run, while the 5 person team ran the guy with the Strike. No one else decided to run. Although I was unhappy with this development, it ended up creating a great dynamic that lasted for the rest of the day.

The game started off slowly, as the 8 person team realized immediately that 8 votes is greater than 5 (lol). So, since they realized they would win, they then tried to make it so everyone got a joint win – however, 20 doesn’t divide into 8 people evenly. So the combined couple guys decided they were going to do 3-3-3-3-3-3 and screw one of the other couples out of Immunity. At around this stage, the team of 5 realized there is no way for them to win with just them 5 – so they started backdoor recruiting individual people from the 8 person team. The one guy who was going to get screwed over was like “yolo my vote’s for sale and so is my gf’s” and completely opens up the game. At this stage everyone was talking to everyone and the artificial barriers were gone.

The first opinion poll happens and the guy with a Strike is leading 8-5 somehow – of course, no one really wanted to give up who they were actually voting for so they just voted for the opposite person. Anyways, the artificial vote serves its purpose and the shenanigans start happening. The group of 5, still cohesive from the beginning of the game, all attempt to steal voters away from the other team. The atmosphere in the house completely changes from a cocky 2 guys guaranteeing victory to “oh **** we’re in trouble”. Promissory notes are changing hands left, right and center.

The second opinion poll happens and the girl is now winning 7-6. Again, the purpose of the vote isn’t to actually dictate who to vote for, but is more of a game continuation mechanism to illicit discussion and create suspense. The game, which 40 minutes ago looked like it was solved, is now a complete cluster**** with no one knowing what’s going on. Last-second bargaining happens and then finally the vote happens.

Final voting happened secretly in the Dealer room, with everyone writing down who they voted for. The votes were then read aloud Survivor-style for the added suspense. Guy 1 girl 1 guy 2 guy 3 girl 2 girl 3 girl 4 guy 4 guy 5 girl 5. So at this stage it’s tied 5-5. The 11th vote comes out for the guy. Then the 12th vote comes out – also the guy. The guy ended up winning the election 8-5 and got his Strike removed. The loser received a Strike and lost all of her Cylons (which she had none as she also got a Strike in the first game).

I then ask for anyone with promissory notes to come forward. 2 girls each have a note for 1 token from the losing candidate. The guy whose vote was up for sale came forward with 6 for the winning candidate. Then one of the 2 guys from the beginning comes forward with 18 tokens from the loser and 14 from the winner lol. Everyone was like wtf are you doing? He was under the impression that, since he had the most from both, he would get both a Strike and Immunity and be able to keep all the Cylons while the 2 effects cancel each other out. Of course that’s total bull**** and he ends up with nothing. As it so happens, once the 2 guys realized they weren’t going to win, they hedged their bets and ensured they would be able to break even – completely selling out the person that ran (the one guy’s gf). She was not happy. Again, the two guys were talking about how they “demoed the game” and “were way ahead” – to which one of the group of 5 said “you haven’t even gotten Immunity without Strikes yet with an 8 person alliance – how good can you be?” And everyone kind of agreed.

So after the second game, we have the one g/f with a Strike while everyone else has a nominal amount of Cylons. As I put the game together, I anticipated that the people running would also have the most of their own tokens – so in terms of Strikes/Immunity it’s about where I expected. The next game is the Zombie Game – and hilarity ensues.

(and sorry for the bad files - the finished ones are on my busto computer)

nice job again, grando. this may be too much work but one thing that may help from the perspective of reading is if each person had name (real, alias, whatever). sometimes takes a few read throughs to figure out otherwise.

The Genius Quote

Going forward this will be the legend of people in the game (eg K is the guy Kgf is his gf). Added most compatible character in the actual game:

K - Younger air traffic controller. Pretty decent understanding of games. Can be annoying at times. Hweejong.
Kgf - Total patsy. Actually quite smart on her own but clings to K a ridiculous amount. Yeonjoo.
G - Total cuckold - will do anything Ggf says. Not particularly good at anything game-wise but friendly guy. Poong.
Ggf - Teacher. Absolutely no-nonsense but has total respect for the game. Tries to angleshoot everything and is all about winning. Eunji.
W - Air traffic controller. Good understanding of games. Character allows for multiple alliances. Cockiness main weakness. Dongmin.
Wgf - Thinks games through. Always writing and strategizing. Doesn't like to rustle feathers. Dahye.
R - Teaching assistant. Most likeable of the group. Decent understanding but plays behind the scenes. Could be a dark horse. Yeonseung.
Rgf - Teacher. Least likeable of the group. If she's not happy you know about it. Very loyal and will stare you down with daggers. Solid understanding and strategy. Yoonsun.
V - reasonable understanding of what's going on. Main goal to have fun and stir things up. Generally likeable. Hongchul.
Vgf - Very approachable. Slightly above average in all facets of the game. The one person who could screw you over and you'd still want them to win. Female Sangmin.
C - Least likeable of the group. Would work alone and is not afraid to burn people. Could win every single elimination match by himself. Jinho.
Ad - Financial manager. Deceptively intelligent and socially awkward. If he opens up could be very dangerous. Kyunghoon.
An - probably least informed about the games. Makes fundamental mistakes and goes on tilt. Useful as someone to give instruction to, but not likely to win the game. Junghoon.
