I think the character of Jeevan as well as the actress when she was a little girl are far more interesting than the theatre troupe, the show would have been better served focusing mainly on them.
Good point, I thought Murai did a kickass job with Atlanta as well (not sure if I've seen other stuff of his). And completely agree about the characters. I think the actress playing young Kristen is amazing, and I would watch any number of episodes of just her and Jeevan's story (wherever it goes from there). The theatre troupe is just zzZZZz.
I forget which ep this was, but probably ep 2, so a spoiler:
Edit: I also really like the quick mini-flashback cuts. They were the only thing stopping ep2 from being a total snoozefest, and I like the idea of just showing quick little glimpses. Both keeps the viewer alert and somewhat realistically mimics how the human mind actually works (as opposed to flashbacks in tv shows and movies generally being very long and in-depth).
All in all, lots to like about this show, and there are elements to it that feel very fresh to me. I'll happily watch it all the way and I'm willing to forgive them for all the theatre troupe stuff that lies ahead.
