Meh, I rarely get into UK type shows tho.

I liked "Good Girls" better.

Oh weird, didn't even occur to me. Can't remember the last time HBO premiered a movie that wasn't about a historical figure. Expectations downgraded accordingly

They did that Larry David movie Clear History a few years ago. Don't recall them ever taking a novel and making a movie

edit: looking at the googles, they've done a number of adaptations of plays: Wit, As You Like It, The Sunset Limited, Sex and the City 2, The Normal Heart. But this looks to be their first film adaptation of a novel.

Just watched season 3 of Detectorists. Obviously great, just as good as the other two.

Spoiler:
Wasn't sure I wanted them to find the hoard. Was obviously thrilled that they did. Thought they wasted the final shot a little, I thought they should have had the other detectorists rushing back and showed them doing their dance. But on the other hand, that was the obvious thing and they choose to zoom out and focus on the land itself. Which makes sense, and my preference would have been a copy of the ending of S02E06.

I started feeling sorry for the Antiquisearchers/Dirt Sharks like maybe episode 2/3. Recognizing them for the first time as mirrors of Andy and Lance, sort of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern copies of them. I was oddly touched by their befriending by the DMDC and Lance. Misfits welcoming in other misfits. Wonderful.

I refuse to believe that this is the last season of Detectorists. They'll revive it in 10 years when Lance is a grandfather, Andy's kid is too big to hang out with his dad, and Hugh has his first grey hair, found at the opening of his and Russell's Museum of Sharp and Twisted Metal

I thought EP 1 intriguing, definitely enough to keep me tuned in.

yes it is BBC stuff...story centers around a straight-arrow young guy in England whose family has varying degrees of connection to the Russian underworld. by no fault of his own, he slowly is getting dragged into that underworld by the end of EP 1.
