Anyone else catch the season premier of AGT? Howard Stern is gone but Simon Cowell is no on board.

The guy with the tape across his mouth was brilliant.

i just saw a preview for a new AMC series starring Dave Schwimmer and one of the dudes from mad men called Feed the Beast. About a restaurant startup with shady funding? Direction looked good. Could be intriguing

Watching the Roots remake, after the 1st ep I think the acting is horrible and the writing is ****.

New UK Top Gear was... not great. Matt LeBlanc surprise standout though, his Ariel Nomad film was top tier. Unfortunately that was only 10% of the show. Top Gear Extra was decent, they need to lose shouty Chris Evans or at least calm him down and get the extra dudes on the main show.

I've only seen the first episode of the Roots remake so far.

The show seemed to lack the powerful emotional scenes of the original. Did Kunta Kinte actually say "Toby" at the end? Or did Fiddler just lie? I didn't hear "Toby".

Also, Kunta's capture didn't move me. Perhaps its just because I've seen it before.

Of all the things kept from the original mini-series, why show the "ftoe" scene?

I'll give the show credit for showing more attention to the African slave trade (Africans enslaving Africans). That often gets ignored in slave stories.

I'm not surprised Kunta Kinte's home was portrayed as a more sophisticated trading town rather than a hunting-and-gathering village. But, I've read there was no horse culture in West Africa at the time.

The show's worst offense had to be young Kunta's desire to attend university at Timbuktu. That was an eye-roller. Not every show starring young (soon to be) African-American males needs to emphasize the importance of getting an education.

he definitely said toby. did he not say it in the original? i haven't seen the original.

as the show goes on, it gets worse and worse. its pretty unwatchable by episode 3.

and yeah, the university thing was ridiculous.

The "Toby" scene was probably the best in the original series.

<random story>

I was waiting for my colleague next to the coffee place we usually go to before work on potentially long days and he was particularly late. Aimlessly walked around and looked at the billboard of the local pub just in front of the coffee place.

Saw an announcement for "Tape guy - The man with the tape on his mouth" or something coming up this weekend.

Thought wtf kind of name is this ****, then forgot about it.

Got home, saw your message, Googled it, watched the performance and rememered I had just seen his name & dismissed it like 10hrs earlier.

Fun.

</random story>

EDIT: if anyone's interested, I'm talking about his Norwich, UK show.

Yeh I watched the first two last night. I wasn't a fan of the first episode, really surreal and super meta.

The second one is much more 'normal', and was pretty funny in parts.

I'm definitely going to give another couple of episodes a go, as I think it's got some great potential.

Oh hell yeah, AMC & Bob Odenkirk teaming up to make a DAVID CARR miniseries. Just in the script phase now.

Dude was a legit phenomenal reporter, and super entertaining. He sadly passed away a couple years back. Most excited I've been for a show in awhile.
